WHITEFISH ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE MINUTES May 4, 2021 The meeting was called to order by Shane Jacobs at 8:15 AM PRESENT: Christine Bleyhl, Stacy Caldwell, Shane Jacobs, Diane Kane, Tracy Rossi ABSENT: Leslie Lowe, Paul McElroy STAFF: Wendy Compton-Ring PUBLIC COMMENT: none MINUTES: The minutes from April 20, 2021 were unanimously approved. OLD BUSINESS Craggy Range, Patio Amendments, 10 Central Ave (ARC 21-12) Replacing the lattice with a metal screening and updated stained fence – same height and location – along with the approved sails. The lighting remains the same. Christine – great improvement Shane – like for like replacement Motion: Tracy – move Christine – 2nd Discussion: none Vote: motion passes unanimously Hartman Duplex, trim color change, 1320 Wisconsin Avenue (ARC 20-25) The applicant described the corner trim, window trim, door trim and belly band. The remainder would stay the same wood color. Christine – different styles on the top of the building versus the bottom half of the building; would almost be better if the trim was monochromatic with the wood color versus changing to white Shane – agrees Motion: Christine – move to approve monochromatic trim or leave the same Stacy – 2nd 1 Discussion: Shane – maybe more appropriate to deny the request and have them consider our comments and return with a different design Stacy – that makes sense Vote: motion does not pass Motion: Tracy – move to table to review the updated color scheme and carefully consider the Committee comments Stacy – 2nd Discussion: none Vote: motion passes unanimously NEW BUSINESS Repainting, 100 E 2nd Street, Esther Barnes (ARC 21-21) The applicant described the building and where the colors will be applied. • Beach House: 1 story building portion and main body • Tree Branch: pop-outs • Terra Cotta: trims Christine – would like to see larger samples and understand where the colors are located could provide that and have larger samples Shane – corner photos of all sides and point toward where the colors will be located; possibly have a small portion of the building pressure washed and apply to the building to see how it will look on the existing wood Christine – noted concerns with the durability of the paint on the existing wood versus a stain or semi-transparent stain; the stain will fade where pain could peel Motion: Christine – table until larger samples can be provided and review in the field can be scheduled Diane – 2nd Discussion: Shane – try a sample on the wood to see what it will look like – pressure wash a spot so the Committee could see them on the existing substrate; a couple of square feet Vote: motion passes unanimously Gemini Townhouse, 617 Colorado Avenue & 716 Denver Street, Christine Bleyhl (ARC 21-19) Applicant presented the plan including updated landscaping plan, described the site and materials. The garage doors will likely be black or something similar 2 Committee discussed the building and landscaping. Can provide samples if needed. Stacy – looks great; likes and appreciates the detail in the landscaping Motion: Stacy – move to approve as submitted Diane – 2nd Discussion: none Vote: motion passes unanimously Blackstar Brewery/Restaurant Building, 2 Central Avenue, small addition, MT Creative (ARC 21-20) The applicant described the required stairwell addition. Same material as existing building and the addition is small scale. Shane – blends in; elevator on the roof – no; existing parapet height meet the standards – the top cap will be extended slightly on the inside; shouldn’t be able to see it Motion: Tracy – move to approved as submitted Stacy – 2nd Discussion: none Vote: motion passes unanimously OTHER ITEMS • Tree Preservation During Construction – will discuss at the next meeting • Start meetings in person on June 1st • Paul & Diane are up for reappointment • ADU – reviewed what the sub-group discussed last week, reviewed a drawing from Christine showing the roof height and other ideas. Staff will write up something for the Committee to look at next week. Another idea for a point system for design was suggested. Meeting adjourned at 9:38 AM 3
