WHITEFISH ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE MINUTES
October 3, 2023
The meeting was called to order by Diane Kane, chair, at 8:17 AM
PRESENT: Christine Bleyhl, Grant Hughes, Diane Kane, Ryan Kiefer, Tracy Rossi
ABSENT: Leslie Lowe, Paul McElroy
STAFF: Wendy Compton-Ring
PUBLIC COMMENT: none
MINUTES: The minutes from September 5, 2023 were unanimously approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Haskill Creek, 3rd amendment, 9 Baker Avenue, MT Creative (ARC 22-17) Presented the
amendments to the project. Including updated stone, awning, lighting and colors on the
Markus side and updated detailing, colors, and lighting on the Haskill side.
Christine – likes the color scheme, re-emergence of green is nice; no other issues; the
increase in the height of the canopy is great; is it real stone veneer? Yes
Tracy – likes it; likes that the south building has its own identity but still complements the
entire building
Christine – happy to see the orange leaving
Motion:
Tracy – move to approve, as submitted
Christine – 2nd
Discussion: none
Vote: motion passes unanimously
NEW BUSINESS
House of Skye, repaint, 232 Central Avenue (ARC 23-15) The applicant presented the
new paint colors. Would like to keep the Chrystal Winters logo and are working with the
City on what is a sign and what is not
Ryan – it is very dark
Tracy – it is an improvement from the blue
1
Grant – clarified the location of the paint
Christine – likes the wood tone of the arch and thinks it softens the color
Ryan – it would be nice to see some accent colors
At some point would like to upgrade the columns; no changes to the windows; perhaps
add some greenery
Christine – noted the trio of colors on the paint sample; the Blue Note might have a better
light reflectance; it would be good to put Midnight Dream and Blue Note on the building
near one another to get a sense of the color; the little samples are hard to see and one
can get a full grasp of the color better on the building
Would be willing to do some samples
Let staff know when it is up and the Committee will come out to review
Motion:
Christine – moved to table subject to review of the paint on the building
Grant – 2nd
Discussion: none
Vote: motion passes unanimously
The Standard, multi-family, 1515 Highway 93 W (ARC 23-25) The applicant presented
the project. Provided an overview of the earlier pre-ap, location, landscaping, materials,
building elevations and lighting.
Tracy – likes the building colors; really likes the landscaping plan from the pre-ap and
hopes this plan will get similar attention, as it was nice
Ryan – color of windows? Dark bronze Agrees dark bronze would complement the
building the best – better than black; but it really depends on any other metal that might
be on the building – railings, fasteners, etc
Christine – lighting? Bollards in landscaping, sconce lighting and canned lighting; cannot
have uplighting and all lighting must be dark sky compliant
Christine – will still need clarifications: window cladding color, lighting updates; otherwise
looks like a nice project
Ryan – asked about screening of rooftop mechanical; clarified building height?
Christine – which direction is the metal panel? Vertical; lap is horizontal
Ryan – doesn’t have a concern with the materials or the building form
Christine – how handle the corner trim? Will have some sort of trim – very small; trimless
windows? Yes.
Diane – elevation from the highway? Quite a bit of distance from the highway to the
buildings with landscaping
Motion:
Christine – moved to approve subject to review of the window color and updating lighting
Tracy – 2nd
2
Discussion: none
Vote: motion passes unanimously
OTHER ITEMS
222 Central Avenue, façade change/awning material change, Gavin-Hanks Architecture
(ARC 23-16) No one was present. The applicant submitted awning colors of black and
white striped. The Committee wasn’t too excited about the white and believes it will look
very dirty very soon. They suggested something more subtle – less prone to a grimy
appearance.
Motion:
Ryan – moved to deny the white and suggested either the terra gravel or terra silver
Christine – 2nd
Discussion: none
Vote: motion passes unanimously
We have no quorum for the October 17th meeting so it is cancelled. The next meeting will
be November 7th.
