C. Vote to Continue Meeting Remotely for up to 90 Days – unanimously approved
D. Committee Status Updates
a. Budget Priorities- Karin updated spreadsheet to indicate which projects are already in the work or in
the budget, and which have uncertain feasibility. The committee discussed the remaining projects and
gave priority to
• creating a sustainability coordinator position,
• funding an irrigation system upgrade for Hwy 93 South, and
• funding installation of a compost shed and related components at a future recycling center (if
developed).
Other projects the committee supports but for which there is not yet enough information to add to the
budget include
• additional funding to expand transit service,
• purchase of hybrid vehicles, and
• inclusion of solar PV with the affordable housing to be constructed at the Snow Lot.
b. Status of City Resolution for EICDA – Robin provided update. Melissa Hartman and Richard Hildner
expressed their support. Richard asked if the committee would endorse their request for City Council to
pass a resolution in support of the federal legislation. Committee members were uncertain whether that
was within the purview of the committee; staff will follow-up with City Attorney. Committee members
are also aware of other types of potentially competing carbon taxing legislation and are not confident
this legislation is the best of them. Committee to review the full packet of information Robin provided
previously.
c. Earth Day – committee unanimously voted to send proclamation to Council for reading at their April 5
meeting. The Glacier Country Climate Smart online calendar of Earth Day virtual events was previously
sent to city departments, and Parks department has added their event. Once the calendar is posted on
GCCS website, a link will be added to the City’s sustainability page.
d. David Donaldson, Community Education Coordinator for Whitefish School District is looking for ideas
of courses to offer that will help implement the CAP Education and Outreach goals. Committee
members have some ideas and will put a list together for David.
E. Public Comment- none
