A meeting of the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in the Stryker
Center (Room 127), 412 N Boundary St, Williamsburg, VA 23185 commencing at 9:00 AM.
The purpose of this meeting is to make final funding recommendation based on review of applications
from designated non-profit organizations.
Commissioners should plan for an all-day meeting. Lunch will be provided.

Call to Order: Chair Tom Phelps called the meeting to order at 3:00.
Attending: Tom Phelps, Susan Corbett, Brandon Gist, Robert Leek, Robin Phillips, Sherri
Phillips, Barbara Vollmer, Nick Vrettos, and City of Williamsburg Tourism Division Manager
Joanna Skrabala.
Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the WAAC meeting on September 18, 2024 were approved.
Chair Report:
• Chair Tom Phelps welcomed two new Commissioners Sherri Phillips, representing the
City of Williamsburg, and Brandon Gist, representing York County.
• Reminded Commissioners FY26 grant funding remains $159,000, the same level it has
been for at least eight years.
• Discussed liaison assignments and reassigned FY25 grantees to commissioners.
Staff Report: Joanna Skrabala
• Distributed list of current FY26 grant applications in progress. Reported all FY25
grantees except one had sent letters requesting release of FY25 grant funds.
• Announced deadline for FY26 grant applications will be Monday, December. She
reminded commissioners the grant review meeting will be January 22 and their reviews
are due to her by January 15.
Subcommittee Reports:
• The FY25 Forum Sub-Committee Chairs Susan Corbett and Robin Phillips confirmed
Stephanie Heinatz, founder and CEO of Consociate Media, will be the speaker at the
February 27th forum. Ms. Heinatz plans to survey past forum attendees to tailor her
presentation to meet their needs. The forum will be titled “Marketing on a Shoestring
budget, and a “Save the Date” notice will be released in early January.
Other business:
• Barbara Vollmer, WAAC’s representative on the Williamsburg Public Arts Council,
updated commissioners on the Council’s recent activities. As a member of ALPV
Committee, she addressed the status of the proposed live performance venue.
• Commissioners gave updates on their grantees.
Next meeting: Grant review on January 22, 2025, at 9:00.
