Library Advisory Board City of Wilton Manors Virtual Meeting Monday, November 23, 2020 Minutes Call to Order Meeting called to order at 6:09pm Roll Call Board Members Barbara Gail Cuthbertson Fred Johnson Emily McCrater Bennett Quade Betty Winslow Richard Sterling, Library Director Faith Lombardo, Virtual Moderator Guest: Ruby Tucker Approval of Minutes • The minutes from the January 27, 2020 meeting were not available so could not be accepted. Comments from the Public • Guest Ruby Tucker stated that she was happy to be here. She is considering applying for the Board. New Business • Election of Officers – Fred Johnson moved to approve the Slate of Officers, Betty Winslow second. o Chair: Barbara Gail Cuthbertson o Secretary: Emily McCrater • Goals and Accomplishments: Board members to send ideas to Rick for discussion at next meeting. • FY2021 Budget Review: Budget was approved as recommended. Library Directors Report Director Richard Sterling presented his report which included the following: • FY19-20 was challenging due to the pandemic. The Library has been closed to the public since March 18. In April the PT employees were furloughed. 3 FT employees remain. • The 19/20FY ended on September 30. During the 19/20FY, 5316 borrowers borrowed 20,646 items. (decease of 41% checkouts from previous FY) • Curbside delivery began in June. So far there have been 630 borrowers who checked out 2927 items. • Library Cards can now be issued over the phone, so patrons are able to access electronic resources. • A copy of the full report will be emailed to the Board. Other Discussion • Question was raised by Barbara Gail Cuthbertson on weather the Library still had to continue paying for subscriptions since the Library has been closed. Rick stated that yes, since many are annual subscriptions. • Fred Johnson asked if utility savings due to the closing were able to be reallocated to the book budget. Rick stated that was not possible. • Bennett Quade asked about the late fines since the closing. Rick stated that the Library is not collecting fines during this time. Also, we are not using the collection agency this year. Rick also stated that many libraries across the country are doing away with fines. • There are still vacancies on the Library Advisory Board. If any member knows of a potential member, have them apply and reach out to the City Clerks Office. Faith Lombardo confirmed that there is no requirement to live in the city limits. Commissioners review all applications.
