Inclusion and Belonging Commission

Call to Order Members Present: Councilor Aurora Hurd, Margaret Bass, Nick Woolf, Ariana Cano & Bruce Wilson City Staff Present: Jenny Willingham, Interim Staff Liaison Guests Present: None Call to Order by: Councilor Hurd at 6:02 PM Minutes Recorded by: Jenny Willingham, City Clerk/Interim Staff Liaison II. Public Comment None III. City Council Updates (Councilor Aurora Hurd) Councilor Hurd discussed possible options for the structure of the Inclusion & Belonging Commission and welcomed the Commission. Councilor Hurd informed the Commission of the upcoming meeting on August 15th at 6:00 p.m. for all Commission Chairs at City Hall. Councilor Hurd extended an invitation to all Commissioners to attend. Also, discussed was the Winooski Pride Event on 9/17 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ARPA Recovery grants are now being offered to non-profits. The Safe, Healthy Connected People Commission will review and recommended funding up to $10,000 per organization. IV. City Updates (Jenny Willingham) Interim Staff Liaison gave an overview of the August 9th election including the Translation of the English ballot in 6 Languages. This was well received by our Community. Also, a brief overview of City Leadership meeting with a focus on Equity. V. Discussion of Commission Assignments Councilor Hurd offered suggestions and input regarding the structure of this Commission. Councilor Hurd gave options such as a traditional format with a Chair, Vice-Chair and a Secretary or a different format. Commissioner Woolf discussed the possibility of having these roles be performed on a rotational basis. The remainder of the Commission agreed on this format. Commissioner Woolf will act as Chair at the next meeting. Commissioner Cano will act as Secretary for the next meeting. Councilor Hurd read a quote from the former Equity Director describing her vision for the Commission structure to perform creatively and collaboratively amongst each other and as a group. Councilor Hurd discussions options for the Commission Liaisons. One option is to talk to the Commission chair or on the Agenda as an update. The Commission brainstormed other possible options. At the next Inclusion & Belonging Commission meeting on October 13th at 6:00 (in-person) only, Commission Liaisons will provide an update to the I & B Commission. The following Commission assignments are as follows: Nick Woolf, Municipal Infrastructure, Margaret Bass, Housing, Ariana Cano, Safe, Healthy Connected People, and Bruce Wilson, Planning Commission.
