Council Updates l Elaine Wang, our new City Manager started on Monday, 5/15 - we are welcome to invite her back to a meeting anytime. l ARPA Survey is out for feedback, still working with translators, and will host feedback sessions in June and July. l Goings on in Winooski this summer: Winooski Wednesdays, Farmers Market, Juneteenth event. l Planning retreat coming up this Saturday 5/20. V. Department and City Updates l Deep appreciation from the entire group to Jon and his involvement in the Commission during City Manager transition. l Jon Rauscher walked the Commission through the memo he had submitted ahead of the meeting. VI. Municipal Infrastructure – Policy, Priorities, Strategies Review Review of Work Plan to prioritize initiatives for Councilor Oakleaf to bring to planning retreat. Priorities below: l Pedestrian safety, specifically line striping - Commission needs to review budget and brainstorm funding sources. Peter Wernsdorfer suggested we explore a multi-year contract to save money. l Energy goals - Commission needs to define goals and prioritized list of projects. l ADA Compliance - Will be a priority next year with a focus on transportation. l Traffic Calming Project - This is well underway but Commission will continue to help communicate about the project and monitor success. VII. Efficiency Vermont Energy Goals / Targeted Communities Program Discussion Michelle McCutcheon-Schour walked the Commission through her presentation for this year’s Targeted Communities program. l This year’s selected communities are Winooski and Brattleboro and the program will run through the end of 2023. l Examples of municipal projects done by other cities during past programs: waste water treatment, lighting upgrades, smart thermostat upgrades. l Outreach plans include a mailer to all residents, but help is needed for outreach to non- profits (Fight for Kids @ Kings Boxing, Winooski Foodbank were suggested by Commission as non-profits to contact). l Considering an appliance recycling day/site in Winooski to assist residents in recycling old appliances. The Commission asked Michelle for any recommendations on how to set energy goals for the city. l Start with a list of obvious things and differentiate between low-hanging fruit and bigger projects. This will give us two action lists and we can prioritize projects based on funding and timing. l Only get an audit if we really need it - a walkthrough can be used to ID items that need an audit. l Jon to schedule a walkthrough with Rose.
