1/4/2024 - Minutes I. Call to Order Members Present: Prudence Dorthey, Jessica Wignall, Collette Khajehali, Taliah Bennett, Colleen Moore, and Lauren Read City Staff Present: Nate Eddy Guests Present: None Call to Order by: Lauren Meeting Start Time: 6:35 PM Minutes Recorded by: Collette Handouts Provided: Yes II. Approve Previous Meeting Minutes Decision: Approved Motion by: Prudence Second: Lauren III. Public Comment None IV. Committee Member Updates Last month, we had our Safe/Healthy/Connected People Commission meeting. Good meeting with good questions and support. V. Library Updates l Programming is the same; long term, watching Eclipse mania increase. Schools will not be in session. Glasses will be given out at the library. Stats down a little bit in December, which is normal for that time of the year. Still busy and still a good amount of traffic l City Council Budget Meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 8 th . Committee members are encouraged to attend. l Kirstin has completed the course credit for Vermont Library Certificate in Public Librarianship. Will also be continuing Swahili language courses virtually via University of London. Professional funding will cover this. l Donna is back with the library – 16 hours a week. Back to 3 staff members again. l Collection – chipping away at re-barcoding all library items. Some categories are fully completed. l Friends Groups – over 12 individuals have reached out for Friends of Winooski Memorial Library (FoWML). Currently have over $1,200 dollars in funding available. Meetings and activities pending. l Donna is back with the library – 16 hours a week. Back to 3 staff members again. l Collection – chipping away at re-barcoding all library items. Some categories are fully completed. l Friends Groups – over 12 individuals have reached out for Friends of Winooski Memorial Library (FoWML). Currently have over $1,200 dollars in funding available. Meetings and activities pending. l $250 annual gift from the Symba Fund. Burlington Telecom gave us $1,000. l VT Dept of Libraries – grant information for the state of Vermont for capital improvement. Paperwork sent to Dept of Treasury and hopes that application process opens this year. 10M is available to rural libraries. 16.4M available to rural libraries and larger/urban libraries. 100K-1M awards will be issued. 12/31/2026 deadline to use those awards. Only for capital improvements which would include the build out of WML. VI. Final Review of Draft Intellectual Freedom Policy Reviewed the most recent version of the policy document. The Library Committee provided feedback and edits to the Library Director. Committee will review and possibly approve the final version next library committee meeting. VII. Library Mascot Discussion Committee will revisit the topic once we know more about the build out of the WML (possibly in late 2024). May consider a mascot or an art installation that personalizes the WML and excites and engages the Winooski community. VIII.
