For more information please contact us at (912)576-3211.  $WWDFKPHQW3DJHRI “Pink Out Friday” Proclamation WHEREAS, nationally, over 246,000 women and men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year; and in 2024 breast cancer continues to be a common cause of cancer in the Southeast Georgia region; and WHEREAS, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the aim of increasing awareness of the disease and facilitating research into its causes, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure; and WHEREAS, the health and well-being of our community are enhanced as a direct result of increased awareness and education regarding breast cancer, and from encouraging our citizens to take actions to lower their risk of developing the disease; and NOW, THEREFORE, we are joining Southeast Georgia Health System, the Susan G. Komen Coastal Georgia Affiliate, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Zeta Iota Omega Chapter, and communities across Southeast Georgia in proclaiming Friday, October 11, 2024 as “Pink Out Friday!” And by encouraging our citizens to wear pink on this day to increase awareness of this disease, to show support and recognition of our neighbors, family and friends who have been impacted by breast cancer and to take an active role in helping to make breast cancer a part of our past and not our community’s future. Dated this 7th day of October 2024 Attested: Signed: __________________________ _________________________ Marissa Pacheco Kizziler Knight Attachment #2, Page 1 of 1 Mayor and City Council of Woodbine, GA Fire Prevention Week Proclamation WHEREAS, the City of Woodbine is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our state; and WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally, and homes are the locations where people are at greatest risk from fire; and WHEREAS, home fires killed more than 2,770 people in the United States in 2019, according to the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®), and fire departments in the United States responded to 339,500 home fires; and WHEREAS, smoke alarms sense smoke well before you can, alerting you to danger in the event of fire in which you may have as little as 2 minutes to escape safely; and WHEREAS, working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in home fires in half; and WHEREAS, Woodbine residents should be sure everyone in the home understands the sounds of the alarms and knows how to respond; and WHEREAS, Woodbine residents who have planned and practiced a home fire escape plan, are more prepared and will therefore be more likely to survive a fire; and WHEREAS, Woodbine residents will make sure their smoke and CO alarms meet the needs of all their family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities; and WHEREAS, Camden County Fire Rescue first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries through prevention and protection education; and WHEREAS, Woodbine residents are responsive to public education measures are better able to take personal steps to increase their safety from fire, especially in their homes; and WHEREAS, the 2023 Fire Prevention Week theme, “Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention,” effectively serves to remind us of the importance of practicing safety measures to reduce the risk of fires while cooking. NOW, THEREFORE, I Kizziler Knight, Mayor of Woodbine do hereby proclaim October 6 – 12, 2024, as Fire Prevention Week throughout this city, and I urge all citizens of Woodbine to “Cooking safety starts with YOU” for Fire Prevention Week 2024 and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Camden County Fire Rescue. Knight Marissa Pacheco, City Clerk  MINUTES OF THE REGULAR WOODBINE CITY COUNCIL September 9, 2024 WOODBINE CITY HALL The regular meeting of the Woodbine City Council held on September 9, 2024 was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Mayor Kizziler Knight, with the following Councilors present: Rick Baird, C.C. Higginbotham, Louise Mitchell and Phyllis Drummond. City officials present: City Administrator Samantha Young, City Clerk Elaine Koch. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Knight. The Invocation was done by Louise Mitchell. Darren Harper of the JDA presented an overview of the Targeted Investment Program. The purpose of the program is to make funds available to small business owners and entrepreneurs at affordable rates to foster improvements on businesses in target areas of the county. Shy Duncan from Georgia DNR was not present. Theodore Taylor and Serena Brown of 1303 Georgia Avenue, Woodbine, voiced their concerns to Mayor and Council regarding car thefts at this address. Mr. Taylor and Ms. Brown are currently renovating this family property. Mayor Knight proclaimed September 2024 as National Suicide Prevention & Action month in the City of Woodbine. Mayor Knight proclaimed September 2024 as Recovery Month in the City of Woodbine. Mayor Knight proclaimed September 17-24, 2024 as Constitution Week in the City of Woodbine. Elaine Koch gave an Administrative update, and Samantha Young gave a Finance and Administrative update. Peter Sharpe was in attendance to answer any Public Works questions in the absence of Jimmie Cohen. Louise Mitchell asked that PSA Appointment be added to Old Business as 9a. Motion made by C.C. Higginbotham, seconded by Rick Baird to approve the agenda as amended. Motion was unanimously approved and so declared by Mayor Knight. Motion made by C.C. Higginbotham, seconded by Phyllis Drummond to approve the minutes of the August 12 and 19, 2024 meetings. Motion was unanimously approved and so declared by Mayor Knight. Public Comments – Janet Heath informed Mayor and Council that book donations from the Woodbine Public Library had been made to the Camden County Jail. 8/12/24 City Council Minutes Page 2 Andrew Heath voiced his concerns regarding the nails popping up on many Riverwalk boards, the need to make more of an effort to trim the trees along the Nature trail and have the trash emptied regularly. He also expressed the need to possibly put up barriers to deter ATV’s from driving on the Trail. Deputy Sheriff McKinney gave an update regarding an altercation between a citizen and a homeless person that frequents the Riverfront park. Old Business – Motion made by Rick Baird, seconded by C.C. Higginbotham to approve the appointment of Phyllis Drummond to the PSA Board starting in January 2025. Motion was unanimously approved and so declared by Mayor Knight. New Business – Samantha Young presented quotes for Large Water Meter Upgrades. Replacement of the large meters will complete the upgrades. Motion made by C.C. Higginbotham, seconded by Phyllis Drummond to approve the Large Meter Upgrades, not to exceed $50,000.00. The motion was unanimously approved and so declared by Mayor Knight.
