For more information please contact us at (912)576-3211.  MINUTES OF THE REGULAR WOODBINE CITY COUNCIL October 7th, 2024 WOODBINE CITY HALL The regular meeting of the Woodbine City Council held on October 7th, 2024, was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Mayor Pro Tem Louise Mitchell, with the following Councilors present: Rick Baird, C.C. Higginbotham, and Phyllis Drummond. City officials present: City Administrator Samantha Young and City Clerk Marissa Pacheco. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Louise Mitchell. The Invocation was done by Phyllis Drummond. Mayor Pro Tem Louise Mitchell proclaimed October 11, 2024 as “Pink Out Friday” in the City of Woodbine. Mayor Pro Tem Louise Mitchell proclaimed October 6-12th, 2024 as Fire Prevention Week in the City of Woodbine. Shyathia Duncan of DNR’s CRD presented the Cycle 28 Coastal Incentive Grant 2025-2026 available for Georgia’s 11 coastal counties, giving background and answering questions regarding the application process and allocation of funds. Jimmie Cohen gave a Public Works update, Marissa Pacheco gave an Administrative update, and Samantha Young gave a Finance and Administrative update. Motion was made by C.C. Higginbotham, seconded by Phyllis Drummond to approve the Agenda as is with no amendments. Old Business - None New Business - None Public Comments – Matt Jordan asked the council if the City was still interested in the fire museum property. If not, Mr. Jordan expressed interest in purchasing the property himself. ROBERT T. BAIRD WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Baird and his family landed in Woodbine by way of the National Health Service Corp Scholarship Program in the early 80’s; and WHEREAS, Dr. Baird observed the lack of quality dental care in Woodbine and the rural surrounding areas and was compelled to provide a solution to those needs; and WHEREAS, On July 11, 1982, he opened his dental practice to the residents of Woodbine and northern Camden County three days a week and provided services twice a week in Folkston; and WHEREAS, Dr. Baird had an opportunity to purchase a practice in Statesboro; however, his love for and dedication to Woodbine wouldn’t allow him to leave; and WHEREAS, He along with Project Smile provided decades of free dental care and community support to children in Belize; and. WHEREAS, Dr. Baird dutifully served on Woodbine’s city council for more than 20 years; and. WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Baird has been a faithful and active member of the Woodbine Methodist Church and the Woodbine Lions Club for more than 40 years. THEREFORE, I, Kizziler S. Knight, Mayor of the City of Woodbine, do hereby proclaim Dr. Rob Baird as a citizen worthy of special recognition for his 42 years of service and dedication to his community. On behalf of the council, staff & the citizens of Woodbine we thank you for your unwavering commitment to all you have served. Knight Mayor Attest: ___________________ Marissa Pacheco City Clerk  Attachment #2, Page 1 of 1 Proclamation IN RECOGNITION OF GEORGIA RETIRED EDUCATORS DAY WHEREAS, The Governor of the State of Georgia has proclaimed Sunday, November 3, 2024 as Retired Educators Day in Goorgia; and WHEREAS, Georgia has more than 145,000 retired educators, more than 33,000 whom are members of the Georgia Retired Educators Association; and WHEREAS, The retired educators of Georgia donate countless hours of volunteer service and provide invaluable contributions to the welfare of their respective communities across the state; and WHEREAS, It is appropriate that a day be designated for citizens to express their appreciation for the contributions that retired educators have made and continue to make for the betterment of human lives and for society; and WHEREAS, Municipalities and organizations will recognize those lasting contributions made by retired educators in this community; and THEREFORE, I, Kizziler S. Knight, Mayor of the City of Woodbine, do hereby proclaim November 3, 2024 as "RETIRED EDUCATORS DAY" and I call upon the citizens of WOODBINE and all of CAMDEN COUNTY to observe that day appropriately to honor our educators for their steadfast and enduring commitment to every student they encountered.
