Bid File #4858 - Solid Waste Collection Contract Transfer to Priority Waste ADJOURNMENT  CITY OF WYANDOTTE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 6/25/2024 AGENDA ITEM # 1 ITEM: Bid File #4858 - Solid Waste Collection Contract Transfer to Priority Waste PRESENTER: Jesus R. Plasencia, City Engineer INDIVIDUALS IN ATTENDANCE: N/A BACKGROUND: Council awarded the solid waste collection contract, Bid File #4858, to GFL Environmental USA at the December 18, 2023, Council meeting. However, GFL has sold the residential collection services for southeast Michigan to Priority Waste of Clinton Township, effective July 1, 2024. Engineering and DPS staff met with both GFL and Priority Waste to discuss concerns regarding the transfer. Much of the staff and equipment used in Wyandotte will transfer to GFL as part of the sale. Priority Waste has stated that all terms and conditions of the current contract with GFL will be honored, including waste disposal at the Riverview Land Preserve. The contract will remain in effect until January 1, 2028, pending successful transition and fulfillment of contractual obligations. Maintaining the City's trash collection schedule will include the current items of the contract: (A) Residential trash pickup, (B) Collection of private commercial dumpsters, (C) Collection of cardboard from commercial dumpsters, (D) Providing and collection of commercial dumpsters for the Wyandotte Street Art Fair, (E) Operation of the Recycling Drop Off Center, and (F) Collection of City-owned dumpster corrals. It is my recommendation to approve the transfer of the solid waste collection contract from GFL Environmental USA to Priority Waste maintaining all terms of the contract. STRATEGIC PLAN/GOALS: This recommendation is consistent with the Goals and Objectives of the City of Wyandotte Strategic Plan in the continuing effort to enhance the quality of life for residents. ACTION REQUESTED: Approve the transfer of the solid waste collection contract from GFL Environmental USA to Priority Waste. BUDGET IMPLICATIONS & ACCOUNT NUMBER: None. All budget implications were addressed in the previous award of the solid waste collection contract.
