Discussion and/or action to authorize the Chief of Police to allow commissioned officers of the City of Yukon Police Department to provide mutual assistance to the Oklahoma City Police Department for a potential OKC Thunder victory celebration, as allowed by 11 O.S. § 34-103. 4. The Oklahoma City Police Department is requesting mutual assistance from your agency for a potenlial victory celebration. should the OKC Thunder win the NBA Finals. lfthe event occurs, it will be held in Oklahoma City, but the exact date and time have not been set at this time. we will provide that information as soon as oossible. In the event ofan OKC Thunder victory, we anticipate the resulting celebration would be a large-scale event for which OKC would need additional law enforcement resources to ensure the saf'ety and security ofthose attending. In preparation lor this, we are requesting that you commit to providing members ofthe Metro Emergency Response Team to assist for the duration ofthe event. As you are aware, requests for mutual assistance are govemed by Title I I O.S. I 34-103 which provides that where such duties are performed, your officers shall have the same powers and duties as though employed by OKC; except that salaries, insurance and other benefits shall be provided in their regular manner by your municipality. The statute further requires approval by your governing body to provide such mutual assistance. We greatly appreciate your consideration in helping to ensure a safe experience for everyone. We are unable to provide reimbursement for your agency's personnel costs, so we fully understand if you are not able to assist due to budgetary constraints. lfyou are able to provide resources to assist with the event, please contact Deputy Chief Brian Jennings at brian. ienninqs.irl okc.qov no later than Friday, June 6, 2025, at 12:00 PM.
