Minutes of the July 17,2019 Meeting
Library Board members, lnez Andre\ás, Margarete Albreclf, Jacie Doyle, Sue Kilmer and Librarian
Sara Schiem¿ur were present. Mary Moore, Prospective Library Board member, was a visitor at the
meeting. Miss Doyle is a newly appointed board member and Mary Moore is awailing approval by the
CityCouncil. She will be filling the newly vacated seat belonging to Joyce Roman. Introduction of the
læw and prospective members were made by Sara Schieman.
The meeting was cailed to order. The minutes of the,A.pril 17 meeting were not presented as tlre
acting secretary for that meeting did not attend this session nor were any minutes forwarded to
the librarian for distribution at this meeting.
Sara began the reviewof the Monttrly Statics forApril, May and June of 2ûf 9. Highlights she
emphasized was the face that in June of this year the library circlated 27,347.items. This is the largest
number of library materials circulated in the history of our library. (copy of monthly statistics for the
previosþ mentions months atüached for fi¡rther information.
Librarian's Report reflected this year's Summer Reading theme is " IJniverse of Stories" Her
librarian's report includes a list of the progrÍLms presentations for all ages ( in-house and outreach).
That information is available in the attached Librarian's Report.
The City of Yukon began ifs new fisc al year July I , 2t19 . The library budgef did increase by a sigru-
ficant amount. However, there was a $5,000 increase in the book budget. The
had presented her with bookstore funds of $2,000 and she was able to apply to Summer Reading
expenses. The group had also purchased a ne\¡r storage contained that is hcused on the parking area
close to the dock of the building. The group allowed $6,000 for that purchase.
An inquiry was made regarding whether we received any funding from the Canadian County
Commissioners. The librarian reported we received approsimate $12,000.
Sara reporfed the amotmf of rettnned maferials and monies collected forbooks notretürrred have more
than covered the expense of using the service. She really believes'we are recoveriag far mare
unretumed materials because they patron feels it might have a more negative refLection on them than
justhearing from the library (again).
Sara then announced the City Manager had informed her, Yukon will be gsttlîg a rielv library builcling!
She had already had one discussion with him earlier rru*s week They are scheduled fo be meeting again
tomorror¡r. She requested board mernbers begin to 'talk it up" in a positive connetation thus building
commrmity enthusiasm. We will be called upon to encourage citizens to participate in voting should
it become dependent on a bond issue.
The meeting adjjoumed. Library Board is scheduled to meet on October t6,2019.
