The City of Yukon Park Board met for their regular meeting on Wednesday, December 15,
2021, 6:00 p.m. at the Huckaba Bldg., 532 W. Main, Yukon, OK.
Roll Call : (Present) Joe Edwards, Ward 1
Joe Baumann, Ward 4
Stephen Nelson, Ward 2
Absent: Cathy Wright, Ward 3 and Jason Hammett, At Large
Others Present: Chris Lucas, Jason Beal, Andrea Griffin, Riley DeLong and
Maddie Flemmons
Item 1: Approval of the minutes Wednesday, October 20, 2021
Joe Baumann moved to approve the minutes from October 20, 2021. Stephen Nelson
seconded the motion.
The vote: Ayes: Baumann, Nelson, Edwards
Nays: None
The Vote 3-0
Motion Carried
Item 2: Introduction of New Parks & Recreation Director
Assistant to the City Manager and interim Parks Director, Mr. Jason Beal introduced Mr. Chris
Lucas, CPRP to the Board. Chris proceeded with discussing highlights of his professional
career, which included leading OKC Parks and Recreation Department as Unit Operations
Supervisor for Citywide Programming. In addition to speaking about his background, Chris
discussed why he was excited about the City of Yukon and Yukon Parks and Recreation,
including a foundation that was already built by previous administration, in which he feels is
an opportunity to continue that path and grow in many different capacities, a great staff that is
incredibly excited to serve the community, and just the overall community of Yukon itself due
their excitement and support of parks and recreation initiatives. Finally, Chris discussed his
philosophy of maximizing the capacities of all of his staff members in a positive and
professional way, so that each staff member was excited to be a part of Yukon Parks and
Recreation and through that, excited to continue to serve the community of Yukon.
Item 3: Upcoming YCC Programs and City Events
Riley DeLong (YCC Manager) and Maddie Flemmons, (YCC Assistant Manager) discussed
their upcoming programs such as Homeschool Cooking, Art and Woodshop. TLC Preschool,
Beginner computer skills, Beginner Volleyball Skills Camp,

Christmas Break Camp, Fly Tying Club, Kids Night Out, and Bunco. They discussed
improvements made to facility over the past year such as paint, flooring, furniture, repairs to
basketball goals, weight room, bathrooms and kitchen.
Upcoming City events include annual Free Throw Contest, Dec. 29th, Diaper Dash Baby
Crawl Contest, Jan. 15th and Daddy Daughter Dance, Jan. 29th, Yukon Chocolate Festival,
Feb. 5th.
Item 4: Updates on Parks & Recreation projects
Freedom Trail Playground renovation, adding a pavilion and splash pad. The project includes
many of the original people who helped design and were at groundbreaking years ago.
Park & Recreation Administration building renovations started in September which included
purging clutter, organizing, painting, lighting, building a wall to create a 3 office administrative
suite, created a 4 person operations area for Special Events staff, along with downstairs
conference room to be utilized for Park Board meetings, staff meetings, team building
exercises and staff education.
YCC renovations include camp room completed, flooring, bathrooms, lobby furniture,
basketball goals, weight room and kitchen accessories.
JCC renovations included fence, basketball goals, doors, retractable curtain, parking lot
lighting quotes.
Item 5: Yukon Community Center inspection results
Purchase of the new foosball and pool tables were a hit with the public as well as the ongoing
repairs completed in the weight room. Kitchen and camp rooms are completed and look
amazing for the public to enjoy through various programs and rental opportunities. Updated
bathrooms, flooring and furniture also have been added. Locker rooms need work and
signage needs replacement.
Item 6: Open Discussion
Joe Baumann welcomed Chris and stated he’s looking forward to his new ideas, programs,
events, progress in general. Thanked Jason Beal and staff for all their hard work moving the
department forward.
Stephen Nelson welcomed Chris and said he’s excited for progress, new ideas,
improvements and moving forward. Thanked staff for hard work.
Joe Edwards thanked Jason Beal and staff for all their hard work moving the department
forward with improvements completed and more to follow. Welcomed Chris and his energy,
new ideas for moving department forward. Excited about Freedom Trail Park renovations
which include a splash pad to take place.
