Park Board Yukon Park Board Minutes April 19 th at 6 p.m. The Yukon Park Board met in regular session at 6:00pm on Wednesday, April 19th, at the Mary Huckaba Building, 532 West Main St, Yukon, Oklahoma.  Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Joe Edwards, Chairman – Ward 1.  Roll Call ROLL CALL: (Present) Joe Baumann – Vice Chairman Stephen Nelson – Ward 2 Tim Rhodes – At Large OTHERS PRESENT: Ryan McClure, Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Kelley, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Kahlil Garner, Parks and Recreation Office Coordinator Thomas Buckley, Manager of Dale Robertson Center  Visitors/Special Guests/Public Comments There were no public comments.  Approval of the minutes from March 15 th, 2023 The board began by reading the minutes from the March meeting. Joe Baumann moved that they accept the minutes as written, Stephen Nelson seconded. Passed.  Parks and Recreation Department Report and Project Update 1. Staff Introduction City of Yukon | P. O. Box 850500 | Yukon, OK 73085 Park Board  Introduce Thomas Buckley – DRC Manger – Thomas talked about his 4yrs as a Lowe’s Manager and his 30 years of ministry. He is excited and glad to be here. 2. Projects Recently Completed Projects  Welch Park Disc Golf Course – Grand Opening Considering addition of a bridge out there at hole 1  Dale Robertson Center partition all  Batting cages at the baseball fields at City Park o Fencing will be considered as part of a future project to allow for public use outside of league nights with a separate entrance.  Baseball backstop fencing replaced.  Yukon Community Center parking lot striping and accessible parking spots updates – new handicap signage  Yukon Community Center parking lot lights  Sunrise Splash Pad concrete repaired.  Pools have been painted. Current Projects  City Park Tennis Courts – surface, fence, and lighting renovations o Projected to be completed in May – 4 courts / 2 with pickleball line  Kimbell Park Tennis Courts – surface, fence, and lighting renovations o Projected to be completed in May – 1 with pickleball lines  Jackie Cooper Gym external wall o Completion timeline will be determined by the weather  Freedom Trail Playground and Splash Pad o Still working on paints and playground equipment o Spring 2024 Upcoming Projects  Dale Robertson Center HVAC system o Unsure on projected start date  Aquatics o Kimbell Bay rock wall 3. Special Events  Taste of Yukon o 500 – capped at 500 o Awards  Best Taste – The Lokal  Best Booth Décor – Pauline’s Southern Kitchen  Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt – Sold Out in 2hrs City of Yukon | P. Box 850500 | Yukon, OK 73085 Park Board o Capped at 150 o Golden Egg  Yukon Senior Games o 255 registrants, 455 event registration o Opening social – 100 to 125 o Pickleball, billiards, archery, golf, basketball, fitness, table tennis, bowling, washer pitching, cornhole, horseshoes, track and field, creative arts  Upcoming Events o Festival of the Child – May 6th  62 vendors currently o Community Bike Ride – May 20th  Starting at Taylor Park with BMX expo and safe riding demos o Concerts in the Park – June – August o Friday Fun Days – June – August  Touch a Truck, Turtle Race, Fishing Derby, etc o Freedom Fest – July 3 and 4  Adding cornhole tournament this year 4. Programs  Summer Programs i. Aquatics 1. Swim lessons 2. Swim team 3. Water fitness/water aerobics classes ii. Athletics 1. Football speed and agility training 2. Beginner disc golf club 3. Recreational and competitive doubles cornhole 4. 3x3 coed basketball tournament iii. Spirit League 1. Award ceremony 2. Swimming and Kayaking 3. Move with Spirit (PE) 4. Jam with Spirit (percussion and karaoke) 5. Paint with Spirt (arts and crafts) 6. Volunteer with Spirit iv. Young Discovery Classes 1. Young Artists, Young Photographers, Young and Active, Young Chefs. v. Miscellaneous 1. Nature journaling 2. Family Cooking Nights 3. Father’s Day Cookout, Ice Cream Social, Wellness clinics, lunch program, bus programs, exercise, and dance classes 4. Kids Night Out, Kids Camp, TLC 5. Kickball, nerf, End of Summer Games 5.
