Park Board Yukon Park Board Minutes February 21, 2024 The Yukon Park Board met in regular session at 6:00pm on Wednesday, February 21st, at the Mary Huckaba Building, 532 West Main Street, Yukon, OK 73099. I. Call to Order Joe Edwards, Chairman – Ward 1 called the meeting to order. II. Roll Call ROLL CALL: (Present) Joe Baumann – Vice Chairman – Ward 4 Stephen Nelson – Ward 2 Joe Edwards – Chairman – Ward 1 OTHERS PRESENT: Ryan McClure, Parks and Recreation Director Ashley Geddes, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Kelley, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Kahlil Garner, Parks and Recreation Office Coordinator III. Visitors/Special Guests/Public Comments None IV. Approval of the minutes from January 17, 2024 The board began by reading the minutes from the January 17th meeting. Joe Edwards moved that they accept the minutes as written, Stephen Nelson motion, and Joe Baumann second. Passed. V. Parks and Recreation Department Report and Project Update Parks and Recreation Department Report and Project Updates 1. General a. Thank you to Joe Edwards for presenting to City Council 2. Staff Work Overview i. Special Projects crew is cleaning up Christmas in the Park ii. Parks Maintenance has been spraying preemergent in the parks, working on park projects, and prepping for the mowing season City of Yukon | P. O. Box 850500 | Yukon, OK 73085 Park Board iii. Special events staff are planning upcoming events: Kids Trout Fishout, Taste of Yukon, Yukon Senior Games, and Festival of the Child iv. Athletics staff is running the weekend basketball league at JCG and prepping for the spring baseball and softball seasons v. Facility staff are operating facilities and running their winter/spring programs vi. Aquatics staff are working on summer hiring, facility projects, and prepping for the summer season 3. Projects a. Current Projects i. Freedom Trail Playground 1. Buffalo repaired and repainted, splashpad equipment installed, benches/chairs added, lights, turf and pour in place installed, canopies 2. Stephen Nelson stated he looks forward to spring, special events, summer, and new programs and projects. b. Joe Baumann stated that parks and recreation is doing an amazing job. c. Joe Edwards stated he was proud to express the positives of what Parks and Recreation is doing at the City Council Meeting and happy to hear about the internal promotions. III. Park Board Yukon Park Board Minutes February 15th at 6 p.m. The Yukon Park Board met in regular session at 6:00pm on Wednesday, February 15th, at the Mary Huckaba Building, 532 W. Main Street, Yukon, Oklahoma 73099. I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Joe Baumann, Vice Chairman. II. Roll Call ROLL CALL: (Present) Stephen Nelson – Ward 2 Tim Rhodes – At Large OTHERS PRESENT: Ryan McClure, Parks and Recreation Director Casey Barnett, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Kelley, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Yahola Tiger, Athletic Coordinator Kahlil Garner, Office Coordinator III. Visitors/Special Guests/Public Comments There were no public comments. IV. Approval of the minutes from January 18, 2023 The board began with reading of the minutes from the January meeting. Joe Baumann moved that they accept the minutes as written, Tim Rhodes seconded. Passed. V. Parks and Recreation Department Report and Project Updates 1. Introduction of Parks and Recreation Staff a. Ryan McClure introduced the board to Yahola Tiger, the new Athletics Coordinator. Yahola spoke about previous employment at the YMCA where he ran sports and coached kids. Working with P&R in Tulsa County, he started Pickleball and other athletic programs. City of Yukon | P. O. Box 850500 | Yukon, OK 73085 Park Board 2. Projects a. Welch Park Disc Golf Course i. Construction has been pushed back ii. Ribbon cutting/grand opening event tentatively scheduled during March b. DRC Partition Wall i. Delayed to March due to winter snowstorms and manufacturing issues c. Freedom Trail Playground and Splashpad i. Groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for March 7th ii. Playground colors have been selected 1. Possible completion scheduled for Feb 2024 d. Baseball i. Batting cages (1 large, 1 large divided into 2 cages) being installed next week on field 3 ii. Baseball backstop replacements starting tomorrow e. City Park and Kimbell Park Tennis/Pickleball courts i. Merritt Tennis and Track Systems will be recommended to City Council for both locations at next meeting. Possible start date of 3/15 with a possible finish date in May ii. Fencing and lighting will be separate projects f. Aquatic facilities i. $37,492 in capital funds; orders are being placed for these projects 1. Rock wall – Kimbell Pool 2. Pool paint 3. Lane lines 4. Actuator for chair lift 5. Splashpad concrete repairs 6. Program and safety supplies 7. O2 Tanks 8. New drains g. Submitted capital requests for FY 23-24 to City Management 2. Special Events a. Revenue = $16,547 before expenses and dividing with Ladies Library Club 1. $7000 after expenses 2. Yonda and Son won best taste c. Upcoming Special Events i. Kids Trout Fishout – March 4th @ 8am, vendors will be at Welch Park ii. Taste of Yukon – March 23rd iii. Yukon Senior Games – April 14th – 22nd, 38 registered so far 1. Ryan asked Tim how they made track and field their biggest event back when they started. Tim talked about using the senior living facilities to advertise and how Debbie at Spanish Cove was a huge help. Tim also mentioned doing something like Wii bowling, softball throw for seniors. iv. Festival of the Child – May 6th v. Freedom Fest in the planning stages 1. City wide meeting 2. Fireworks 3. OKC Philharmonic and Irv Wagner will be the 3rd and 4th 3. Programs a. Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt @ JCG i. 48 have signed up and we haven’t done any marketing b. Youth baseball i. Preseason tournament starts at the end of this month ii. Season starts in mid-March iii. Baseball tournaments 1. Looking at having a Yukon based organization run tournaments – Triple Crown c. Youth indoor soccer i. 98 signed up d. Hooked on crochet – 2 sessions i. 31 sign-ups e. Painting with mom – 2 sessions i. 60 signed up ii. 39 more on the waiting list! f. Dads, Donuts, and Cornhole i. 22 signed up for April event City of Yukon | P. O.
