Park Board Yukon Park Board Minutes July 17, 2024 The Yukon Park Board met in regular session at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, July 17th, at the Mary Huckaba Building, 532 West Main Street, Yukon, OK 73099. I. Call to Order Joe Edwards – Chairman – Ward 1, called the meeting to order. II. Roll Call ROLL CALL: (Present) Joe Baumann – Vice Chairman – Ward 4 Carrie Sharp – Ward 3 Joe Edwards – Chairman - Ward 1 OTHERS PRESENT: Ryan McClure, Parks and Recreation Director Ashley Geddes, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Kelley, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Kahlil Garner, Parks and Recreation Office Coordinator III. Visitors/Special Guests/Public Comments None IV. Approval of the minutes from May 15, 2024 The board began by reading the minutes from the May 15th meeting. Carrie Sharp moved that we accept the minutes, and Joe Baumann seconded the motion. Passed. V. Parks and Recreation Department Report and Project Update City of Yukon | P. O. Box 850500 | Yukon, OK 73085 Park Board Parks and Recreation Department Reports and Project Updates 1. New Staff Members a. Aidan Angles – Special Operations Specialist (Aquatics/Athletics) b. Braydan Castrop – Special Operations Supervisor (Aquatics/Athletics) 2. Staff Work Overview a. Special Projects – assisted with Freedom Fest event setup (lights, displays, stage, tents, decorations), began getting ready for Christmas in the Park, miscellaneous assistance with different work sections b. Park Maintenance – mowing, weed eating, watering (sod, grass, trees), picking up/dumping trash, working flowerbeds, trimming trees, inspecting playgrounds, and numerous other park projects c. Special events - Community Bike Ride, Concerts in the Park, Friday Fun Days (Touch a Truck, Turtle Race, Fishing Derby, Dog Show, Scavenger Hunt), Route 66 Triple Tour, Freedom Fest, planning many more upcoming events d. Athletics – completed baseball and softball league seasons, preparing for upcoming flag football and fall baseball seasons e. Aquatics – operating 2 pools and splash pad, running programs (swim lessons, swim team, water aerobics classes) f. Facility staff – facility operations, summer programs (kids camp), and facility projects g. Admin staff – projects, hiring, and budgetary work 3. Projects a. Recently completed projects i. Kimbell chemical storage area – concrete pad, sidewalk, fencing, new chemical storage containers ii. Parks and Recreation van wrap iii. Pavilion update – Sunrise Park iv. Baseball fencing v. DRC kitchen flooring (main kitchen, Mobile Meals kitchen) vi. DRC painting – kitchens, main ballroom, entry hallway, main bathrooms vii. Kimbell nature ensemble – Irv Wagner Dedication (5/30) b. Current Projects i. Freedom Trail Playground and Splashpad - Ashley ii. JCG automatic doors – automatic openers are installed on old doors, waiting on new doors to arrive City of Yukon | P. O. Taylor Park – will be used for flag football field 1. Field surface improvements, bench replacements, paint goal posts, fence repairs, new signage vi. Taylor Park soccer fields irrigation project c. Upcoming Projects i. YCC interior project – 18 new interior doors ii. Fence replacement – City t-ball and football fields iii. Chisholm Trail Park irrigation iv. Hilcrest Park playground, fence, amenities v. Ranchwood park pedestrian bridge rehab vi. Chisholm Trail Park pond leak/wall repairs vii. Kimbell Park parking lot resurfacing and repair; remove/replace gutter system, sandblast/epoxy pain pool shell viii. Kimbell Park pavilion – carport repairs ix. Baseball fence replacements x. DRC/Library signage on the building xi. Sunrise Park softball field improvements – fields, bleachers, lights, etc. ($32,000) xii. JCG painted pickleball lines 4. Budget a. Capital Improvements = $1,021,993 i. New work pickup, new passenger DRC bus, stand on zero turn mower, DRC dance/exercise floor, volleyball equipment, program equipment fund b. General Fund = $3,789,811 i. 7.47% increase ii. 3% COLA adjustment for full-time employees 5. Special Events a. Recent Events i. Community Bike Ride – 5/18 1. Record participation ii. Irv Wagner Nature Ensemble Dedication – 5/30 iii. Concerts in the Park iv. Friday Fun Days v. Freedom Fest – 19,000 in attendance, adjusted with the weather 1. 2 food truck areas, stage music, orchestra performances, free ice cream and watermelon, large kids’ activity areas, Veteran’s Tribute, orchestra performances, Cherry Bomb Youth Triathlon, car show, children’s parade, hot dog eating contest, free swim, cornhole tournament, fireworks (15 events in 1) b. Open Discussion • Carrie Sharp likes that she can tell employees enjoy what they do. • Joe Edwards said welcome to Carrie Sharp, and he was amazed by the list of items Parks and Recreation had to complete. He feels everyone is doing a great job. • Joe Baumann stated he appreciated the work and excellent job on the Freedom Fest. III.
