September 18, 2024
The Yukon Park Board met in regular session at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September
18th, at the Mary Huckaba Building, 532 West Main Street, Yukon, OK 73099.
I. Call to Order
Joe Edwards, Chairman – Ward 1, called the meeting to order.
II. Roll Call

IV. Approval of the minutes from August 21, 2024
The board began by reading the minutes from the August 21st meeting. Joe
Baumann motioned, and Tim Rhodes seconded. Passed.

1. City Updates
a. New City Manager – Mike Castro starts on 9/23
2. Staff Updates
a. New DRC Manager – Shelby Sarantakos
3. Projects
a. Recently Completed Projects
i. Taylor Park Field – field surface upgrades, striped for 2 fields,
painted goal posts, added goal post padding, added new
signage (large and small) with a nod towards SWCS and Patriot
Field, fixed scoreboard, added portable scoreboard for 2 fields,
new player benches, added fan bleachers on west side, added
a sound system, added gates for press box to enhance safety,
replaced picnic tables, big cleanup of area and storage areas
ii. YCC interior project – doors and window into the gym
b. Upcoming Projects
i. Jackie Cooper Gym renovations
1. Move front desk into hallway, remove one water fountain,
move vending machine and TV, staff will move all desks
into Manager’s office, former staff office/front desk area
will become program room
ii. Sunrise softball fields – project with Lowe’s
iii. Hilcrest Park playground, swings, and shade area
iv. Baseball restrooms
4. Special Events
a. Rock the Route
i. Rockin’ Family Fun Ranch kids area, guitar raffle, food trucks, t-
shirt and merchandise sales, 3 performances
ii. 10,200 people in attendance
b. Upcoming Events
i. Chisholm Trail Festival – October 12th
ii. Mummy & Son Masquerade – October 21st
iii. Spooky Senior Social – October 22nd
iv. Spooksville – October 26th
v. Patriot Project – November 1st
vi. Pumpkin Harvest Craft Festival – November 2nd
vii. Opening of Christmas in the Park – November 23rd
viii. Sounds of the Season – December 19th

5. Athletics
a. Flag Football – 217 Participants
i. Taylor Park Grand Opening on 8/27
1. Inflatable games, flagging, balloons, sky dancers, music,
teams ran out of maze onto the field when announced,
Chisholm the Cheetah, giveaways
b. Youth baseball
i. Wood Bat Wake Up Baseball Tournament – 15 teams
1. Wooden bats and rings for champions
2. Chisholm the Cheetah, food truck, baseball speed pitch
inflatable
ii. Panic in the Park baseball tournament Oct. 19-20
c. Youth basketball season begins in November
6. Aquatics
a. Pools are now closed; the winterizing process is taking place
b. Sunrise Splashpad is closed; Freedom Trail Splashpad is open for one
more weekend
7. Miscellaneous
a. Other events/activities happening in the parks or receiving assistance
from Parks and Recreation
i. Czech Fest (10/5), Cruise-in for a Cause (9/19), Special Olympics
Horseshoe Tournament (9/27), regional BMX event (9/27 – 9/29),
weekend RC races, Yukon Soccer Club fall season began last
weekend, Okie Nationals Car Show (10/12)
b. Christmas in the Park setup continues
c. Parks continue to mow and maintain parks as the growing season slows
down
d. Fall programs began in September - handout
VI. New Business

VII. Open Discussion
a. Stephen Nelson, sad to hear about Thomas, but excited for Shelby at
the DRC.
b. Joe Baumann, sad to see Thomas go, and likes that ad giving SWC credit
for the Taylor Park takeover. The staffing structure and support are great.
c. Carrie Sharp stated that happy citizens, a balanced budget, and great
staff are awesome balance.

d. Joe Edwards, it is good to see everyone at the Freedom Trail Park
opening and Chisholm out visiting.
e. Tim Rhodes enjoys bragging about the department and seeing the
passion all the staff have for what they do. The parks look great.
VIII. Date & time of next meeting: Wednesday, October 16th, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the
Dale Robertson Center at 1200 Lakeshore Drive in Yukon.
Joe Edwards announced the date, time, and location of the next meeting.
