Minutes THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON MARCH 9, 2021 AT THE CENTENNIAL BUILDING IN THE CITY COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM. THE MEETING WAS HELD AT 6:30 PM. INVOCATION: James Montgomery FLAG SALUTE: In unison ROLL CALL: James Montgomery Charlie Lee Tim Peters Brad Downing (Absent) Tom Thomas CITY OFFICIALS: Doug Shivers, City Clerk Jason Beal, Deputy City Clerk Arnold Adams, Public Works Director Brittany Stinnett, Public Works ITEM 1: DISCUSS AND APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 09, 2021 REGULAR TRAFFIC COMMISSION MEETING Motion for minutes to be approved: Motion – Tom Thomas Second – Tim Peters The motion passed unanimously. ITEM 2: VISITORS – none ITEM 3: DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION IN REFERENCE TO A REQUEST FROM THE WESTPORT 66 HOMEWONERS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT FOR SIGNAGE REGARDING LARGE VEHICLES ENTERING THE NEIGHBORHOOD Traffic Commission – March 09, 2021 Page 2 James Berry, Westport 66 HOA, presented his concern for large trucks unable to turn around without causing damage to personal property. Mr. Shivers stated he spoke with the Police Chief; one option is signage similar to a “No Truck Outlet” Sign. There is not a law currently in Yukon that the large trucks are in violation of. Commissioners held a detailed discussion on the type of signage, sign language and sign location. Mr. Peters went out and reviewed the area in question. Mr. Lee stated it is a 75’ circle containing meter, and electrical box confirming large truck turn arounds to be difficult. Mr. Montgomery stated he would research and get back to City Staff. Motion to install appropriate signage: Motion – Charlie Lee Second – Tom Thomas The motion passed unanimously. ITEM 4: DISCUSS TRAFFIC CONCERNS Mr. Thomas – None Mr. Peters provided information about W. Vandament before Frisco Rd. and the increased amount of traffic violating speed limit signs. The Police Departments trailer will be set out to monitor. Mr. Lee stated the following lights were locked on left turn: 4th and Main St Mr. Montgomery started discussion of Holly and 10th Street. Traffic Commission – March 09, 2021 Page 3 Mr. Shivers stated the City Council was recently presented three options for Holly and 10th St.: 1. Right turn only 2. Right turn lane onto Holly 3. Turn lanes and signal to be added to the 10 street bridge Mr. Shivers announced this to be his and Jason Beal’s last meeting, Arnold Adams and Brittany Stinnett will assume the roles of Traffic Commission City Liaisons. ITEM 5: DATE FOR NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 13th, 2021. ITEM 6: ADJOURNMENT
