TOWN OF ZIONSVILLE, INDIANA BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS DECEMBER 19, 2022, PUBLIC MEETING 1100 WEST OAK STREET ZIONSVILLE, INDIANA MEETING MEMORANDA I. OPENING A. CALL TO ORDER: Vice President Josh Garrett called the meeting to order. B. MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Vice President Josh Garrett, Commissioner Kristin Vargo, Commissioner Suzy Nagy and Commissioner Graig Collings C. MEMBERS NOT IN ATTENDANCE: President Joe Culp D. OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: Chief of Police Michael Spears, Captain Drake Sterling, Captain Marius Klykken, Sgt. Josh Samuelson, Heather Harris, Legal counsel for the Board of Police Commissioners, Tiffany Diefenderfer II. APPROVAL OF THE FOLLOWING MEETING MEMORANDA: A. Commissioner Kristin Vargo made a motion to approve the November 21, 2022, Meeting Memoranda as submitted. Commissioner Suzy Nagy seconded the motion. All in favor. The  motion passed with a vote of 4-0. III. OLD BUSINESS A. None. IV. NEW BUSINESS A. None. V. OTHER MATTERS A. Captain Sterling provided on update on the recruiting process. There are currently 17 applicants being processed through background checks and polygraphs. The Chief’s interviews are scheduled for January 23 and 24, 2023 at ZPD. Of the 17 applicants, 5 are laterals. Captain Sterling provided information on the diversity of the applicants. B. Captain Sterling and Sgt. Samuelson provided information regarding the Child Abuse Sexual Exploitation Task Force being formed which will include 7 or 8 members from different departments. A copy of the Memorandum of Understanding was provided for review. C. Chief Spears provided information regarding a Joint Event Response Group training with IMPD. ZPD will be training with IMPD and bordering departments to be prepared for responses to large events or public unrest. ZPD has received the required equipment and will begin training with IMPD in the first half of 2023. A copy of the Memorandum of Understanding was provided for review. D. Vice President Garrett recognized and thanked Commissioner Nagy for her 13 years of service to the Police Commissioner Board. VI. ADJOURN Vice President Garrett made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Vargo seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed with a vote of 4-0. The next regular Board of Police Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. or upon the conclusion of the Town Council meeting.
