Pathways Committee Meeting Minutes June 10, 2013 6:00 p.m. Attendees: Tim Casady Paul Watson Richard Stroup Art Small Tom Schuler Matt Dickey Bill Spitz Elizabeth Hopper Geoff Brown Evan Williams Phil Howard Akard’s to Town Hall Pathway Jim Detwiller, living in Quail Run, asked that the current dirt pathway from behind Akards to the parking lot of Town Hall be improved to enhance pedestrian usage…in his case, the Quail Run residents. Matt noted no town funds could be used for this since it’s privately owned property. Nothing was resolved. Bicycle Friendly Community Bill noted that for this go-around, we did not get any certification of a Bicycle Friend Community. We’re hoping to qualify during next year’s process. Walk-Friendly Community Program We’re hoping to get going on this program, also, in conjunction with the BFC program. Phil and Art offered to help spearhead this effort. WayFinding Project Thanks to Paul and Lance, we have a great proposal put together to add this signage to/from our Main Street and our Rail Trail head at Laurel. Lance apparently has budget and hopes to get this accomplished yet this year. He still has a few more design kinks to workout, Bennett Parkway Extension It was noted that new roads were being developed (Bennett Parkway) to adapt to the new FedEx hub being built. Tim is to check with Lance about pathways that are being designed in. May Bike Month Tim reviewed the events that were held last month around town. Bill and Tim had a tent at a Farmer’s Market. Project Priorities For purposes of 2014 Street Department budgeting, Lance asked the committee to consider discussing and prioritizing between the two important pathways projects planned for Turkey Foot Road and Bloor Road. After a discussion, we couldn’t decide between them…we want both about equally. We understand Bloor will probably take considerable study and effort. Lance, take your pick. Updating the Pathways Plan Tim noted that Zville Planning might be updating the Transportation Plan and that we have an opportunity to also update our Pathways Plan as a piggyback. Tim, Geoff, and Evan will handle this effort. Next Meetings The next meeting will be two months away: August 12th at 6pm
