Pathways Committee Meeting Minutes
October 21, 2013
6:00pm
Meeting attendees:
Tim Casady Paul Watson Jeff Edmundson
Charlene Short Matt Dickey Evan Williams
Pathway To Clarkston Sub-Division
Charlene Short, resident in Clarkston sub-division, asked that we consider a pathway up the west side of
Michigan Road past Templin Road to their sub-division (about .4 miles). With a recent addition of
rumble strips on both sides of Michigan Road, bicycling has extremely prohibitive and dangerous along
that .4m. Charlene noted that the State appears to be years away from continuing the widening of
Michigan Road north from Templin.
We suggested Charlene contact our TC member, Tom Schuler, for more exposure to her plight…as well
as potentially increasing the priority for a pathway up Eagle Creek from Templin.
Walk Friendly Community
Jeff and Tim said we’re still continuing on with our plan for certification…including a submission for
Walk certification yet in December.
Bicycle Friendly Community
Tim noted we’re still continuing on this…including working with ZCS.
WayFinding Project
Tim noted that Lance said this is now being pushed back to spring.
Hanging Trees
Paul indicated not much activity now…especially since this is now more a spring priority.
Paid Pathways/Bicycle Staffer Position
Matt indicated this prospect didn’t make the proposed budget for 2014. Dang!!
Eagle Creek Pathway
Matt noted progress has stalled due to problems with environmental concerns involving Canterbury
Stables. Parks is still keeping it going, though.
Extending Rail Trail North
Matt showed a few potential pathways around the Driveway Guy’s property. He recommended we
modify our master Pathway Plan to include all these potential locations such that they could get folded
into the Transportation Plan if/when it does get updated.
Tim will get these paths onto the markup we already gave Ed Mitro to be addressed when the
Transportation Plan ever gets updated.
Matt suggested we might look into separating our plan and pushing for approval independent of the
Transportation Plan.
Ford Road Bridge
Matt indicated that the current plan for the Ford Road bridge was 24’ lanes with 28’ total width…hence,
no pedestrian lanes.
Misc
Matt also noted that the gravel connection heading west from the Town Hall parking lot to behind
Akard’s was most likely not going to be maintained…but, it could still exist as dirt.
He also noted that there is now a paved connection heading north from the Town Hall parking lot
connecting to the Rail Trail.
And finally, he noted that Steve Mueller is planning to resign from the Parks Board.
