Zionsville Pathways Committee Meeting

Pathways Committee Meeting Minutes March 22, 2016 6:00 PM Meeting Attendees: Art Small Larry Boley Evan Williams Jeff Edmundson Bret Brewer Rail Trail-South: Jeff noted that the funding for the continuing Rail Trail south past the 100 foot bridge was reallocated for a Park Project. It is doubtful that we will get this funding back this year. Art suggested that we should investigate some form of volunteer effort to help jump start this pathway on our own. Zionsville Road Improvements: Jeff also noted that there is a 2/3 year plan to widen Zionsville Road which may include bike lanes. We will keep pushing for a pathway alongside the roadway conform with the Town Council’s Master Plan. Eagle Creek Pathway: Jeff noted that Matt is now looking into a ramp/stair system to get from the north side of the 100 foot bridge on the Rail Trail down to the planned pathway along the creek heading northeast to Zionsville Road. Pedestrian/Bicycle Planning Effort: Jeff noted that Matt’s view on the current Pedestrian./Bicycle planning was that their effort would layout their own pathway map which would would be utilized in conjunction with the Town Council’s Pathways Plan. We will need to address any differences in the two plans when the Pedestrian/Bicycle plan is submitted to the Town Council for approval. Eagle Creek Path North to Midland Trace: Jeff noted the grant related to trail planning efforts had drafted information that contemplated a trail north along Eagle Creek all the way ups to our planned Midland Trace east-west pathway. Jeff offered to address this issue with Matt to get this pathway along Eagle Creek on our Master Plan before it gets approved as well as Matt’s take on the immediacy of the Midland Trace Trail itself. Follow Up for the Next Meeting: Tom said he would check with the Whitestown Town Manager as to timing and priority issues for the extension of Zionsville’s rail trail north to Whitestown’s rail trail.
