ZIONSVILLE SAFETY BOARD MEETING MEMORANDA For October 29th, 2012 Zionsville Town Hall 1100 W. Oak Street 1. OPENING A. Call meeting to order – President Steve Mundy called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. Board members present: Steve Mundy, Tim Haak & Susana Suarez Members absent: None 2. MEETING ITEMS A. Approval of minutes from the August 27th, 2012 meeting: Mr. Haak motioned to approve the August 27th, 2012 minutes, Ms. Suarez seconded. All were in favor and motion was passed. B. Special Presentation – Zionsville Times Sentinel: a. Greta Sanderson, Publisher of the Zionsville Times Sentinel presented ZFD and ZPD with checks for 10% of the newspaper sales from special editions of the Zionsville Times Sentinel saluting each department and their members. ZFD received $340.00 and ZPD received $260.00. C. Reports: Fire & Police Department reports were submitted and posted to the website for review. D. Old Business: a. Fire Protection Ordinance Variance Request - Brookhaven: Chief VanGorder noted that Duane Sharrer from the Snider Corporation has withdrawn the variance request. Chief VanGorder also noted that the fire department has developed an internal policy for residential developers to alleviate the variance request process. However, the developer may still request a full removal of requirements through the safety board if they wish to do so. Ms. Suarez commended Chief VanGorder on coming up with a creative way to address the issue and being proactive engaging the community and the business world on ways to find a solution. President Mundy agreed. b. 9th Street and Oak Sign Request: Mark Condrey, pastor of Zionsville Christian Church, stated that the church contacted appropriate business owners on Oak Street as requested by the Safety Board and proposed shared signage for the church and businesses and the businesses that they contacted declined. Mr. Condrey proposed a directional sign to the church with the Red Cross Evac Center symbol on it be placed on 9th and Oak Street. Town Manager Mitro recommended not including the Red Cross Evac Center symbol on the sign, due to it not being part of the local emergency preparedness plan. President Mundy motioned to approve the Zionsville Christian Church signage minus the Red Cross Evac Center symbol to be located on the street sign at 9th and Oak Street. All were in favor and motion was passed. E. New Business: a. Cross Walk Request – 5th Street and Oak: Emily Makinson & Bill Burgman, both residents in the village spoke on behalf of the Village Residents Association. The VRA is requesting the establishment of a crosswalk at 5th and Oak Street. Street Superintendent Lance Lantz briefly reviewed the engineer study. Ms. Suarez motioned to favorably recommend to the Town Council adoption of a resolution to create a crosswalk at 5th Street and Oak. Mr. Haak seconded, all were in favor and motion was passed. 3.
