4. Staff Liaison, Shawn Finnegan Update - Karla will be stepping down, and we will
fill the seat. Todd is also no longer with Webster Groves. Greenhouse Gas inventory
will be worked on by a student for her Master Thesis, at SIUE campus with Dr. Locke.
Dr. Locke will be able to be more involved and engaged. Will meet again on
Thursday. GDA- finished brochure with QR code. In February, outreach to
restaurants will start. Solar event- reserved MARCH 3, Sunday, at Olive and Oak.
Ameren will be coming.
Old Business
• Eco-Ed Lecture Series with GSAC Karen- met with Corin and Carey, eager to
move ahead in the eco ed series. The biggest problem is attendance. Location?
Rec center? Tentative the first Tuesdays. Karen will help coordinate location and
social media/publicity. 6 events this year would be plenty. We need 3 speakers,
GDA, energy conservation, solar and ? Do we want to continue the speaker
series? If so, we need to get a publicity package together, so we need to get
started with ideas for speakers by February. Commission members would be nice
to attend and help set up and take down. Should we offer an honorary gift for the
speaker? John, can we have the month to think about invitations? So please send
ideas to Karen suggestions asap! Keep in mind, 1st and 3rd Tuesdays are
Council meetings at the library. We need ideas for speakers in October. A
possible speaker for October could be Solar. March 5, May 7, Oct 1 are the dates
for Sus commission to pick speakers.
• Solar Event – 3/3/2024 Time: 1-3pm
Any Grow Solar incentives 2024? Nelnet, available to come? Nelnet works closely
with Grow Solar. Eric Schnider, solar installer, agreed to come to a speaker
series, maybe willing to come to this instead. Reach out to multiple contractors?
Maybe send someone to answer questions. Jeff to talk to Jamie who might be
able to talk about their personal experiences. John, the city has a list of
companies who are already approved to work in WG. Aamna, council member
Emerson Smith, has solar panels. ask to attend the event. Jeff, Shawn, Jeff and
Karen will help make contacts to spread the word. We will have tables for all
vendors/sus commission hand put bags!
2
Karla and Shawn got over 300 bags passed out to Webster students.
6. New Business
• Earth Day - Karen, Natural Living Expo, at rec plex we could have a table there,
with info about us, cost 150 per table. April 14, 2024.
Jeff, April 20 or 21, date to hand out green bags at grocers.
• Other 2024 Priorities, Bond issue with rec center solar panels, is it happening?
All items on bond even capital improvements to the city to get things done more
quickly. So how many projects can we do with the bond money? Where money
goes is still to be determined. Post votes will occur until we get more information
about what projects cost. What can we do as a committee to promote our focus
for bond issues?
