Minutes PZAZ Date: January 19. 2022 Present: Tom Casalini, Greta Sanderson, Andrew Schnell, Dillon Wyatt, Michal Owens, Brad Burk, Carol Johnson, and Amy Lacy Greta Sanderson called the meeting to order at 8:03 am The minutes from the meeting of 20 October 2021 were approved. I. Update on initiatives and committee responsibilities a. Ordinances and preservation- Dillon volunteered b. Events (tree-planting day, Z’Greenfest)- Discussed possibility of adopt-a-spot or yearly fundraising event (compared to Keep Lebanon Beautiful) c. Tree City designation: Arbor Day celebration d. Outreach- explain benefits of tree planting to HOA and businesses. Presentation already created e. Beautification-Tom: Bring concerns to Tom and Lance, lots of areas to still address (new roundabouts, lighting the rest of Sycamore, bumper areas in village) II. Old business a. Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) Assessment – overlay by census block or council district, show which areas are good or bad, 40% canopy cover is recommended, can apply for a grant for high resolution imaging, work with high school agprogram, itreetools.org - Carol :This was original plan before IU Climate Environmental Resilience Grant. This will expedite the process. This is a new development and we are still learning the details. The plan is to announce that our town was awarded the grant on social media and explain the money and time-saving benefits. b. Tree designation for businesses or homes that meet a list of standards, i.e. Holliday Farms preserving the area, or neighbors who have planted lots of trees: Michal volunteered to lead. Discussed social media campaign for nominations. Yearly or more often? Will need to discuss how this is recognized. Research other communities who have utilized this type of designation. c. Move recommend lists out of town ordinance, don’t want them overplanted, have a list for reference, see Fishers list - Dillon- Lance Lantz/Roger Collins/Mindy Murdock: Update native species list d. Introduce new board members – Greta - Andrew Schnell - Michal Owens - Dillon Wyatt Still need to fill one spot- which will be officially approved at next Town Council meeting to increase committee from five to seven members. e. Student from high school eco club to serve as liaison – require town council action – Brad III. New business a. Promotion of historic Zionsville- signage on 421/Sycamore and from Whitestown. IV. Watch items a. Landscape in the Village b. Highlight Village history c. Expand decorative lighting poles, flags etc. onto the streets adjacent to Main Street d. Install works of sculpture around the Village, Lions Park and Elm Street Green. e. Toilets in the Village Business District f. Support the ongoing efforts to create a conservation district designation for the Historic Village. g. Tree inventory V.
