Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Agenda
Meeting Date: Tuesday, September 20, 2016 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m.
Location: City Hall 2nd Floor Conference Room
Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting
Attended: Doris Stusiak, Tom Wanttie, Laura Stoltenburg, Eric Vetter, Becca Wells, Cindy Kirschman, Holly
Gederos, Mendy Jones, Susan Hook and Kris Fastenau
Absent: Krista Bau, Kristi Myhre, Cody Roggatz, Steve Kelsey, Sandy Glover, Deb Kambel, Nancy Kelsey, Dawn

1. Standing Items
1.1 Additions to agenda: None
1.2 Review and approve minutes from August 2016 meetings: Tom Wanttie moved with Eric Vetter
seconding to approve the minutes. Motion carried.
1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s reports from June and July 2016: Current balance $835.20. Expenses of
$193.89, ADA celebration, and $10.00, RideLine Fair tickets, are not included. Also, $500.00 for
Educational Enhancement Award will be deducted this month. Motion made to approve treasurer’s
report by Tom Wanttie, seconded by Eric Vetter. Doris Stusiak will check with Karl regarding budget
proposal request, as we haven’t heard anything regarding it.
2. Committee Reports
2.1. BAD (Tabled until November 2016): No report.
2.2. Partners in Community Pride: No report.
2.3. Transportation: Work is continuing on airport runway. Questions were fielded about the road build
inside the fence from the fire department to the airport. Interior remodel of RideLine office is on-going
and 3M volunteers are helping with this. Part-time drivers are needed. RideLine provided approximately
2400 rides during the Brown County Fair. Eric Vetter suggested putting a picture in the Progress of
RideLine for their updated accessible ramp.
2.4. Education Enhancement Award: 5 individuals from NSU have applied. Cindy Kirschman and Mendy
Jones reviewed the applicants with the entire committee. The Education Enhancement Award
committee recommended Kirk Bender as the recipient of the award. Cindy Kirschman will notify Karl
Alberts for the $500 monetary award. When the check has been received, Kirk will be presented with it
and a picture will be submitted to the Aberdeen American News and also the Progress magazine. They
reported that the committee had a decision this year with the number of applicants and the committee
will look at developing a rubric scoring method for future years. Cindy Kirschman will email the blank
application to members for any suggestions to update it.
2.5. NDEAM: The event will take place on Tuesday, October 11, from 8 – 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran
ReCreation Center. Laura Stoltenburg reported that plans for the event are about complete.
2.6. ADA Anniversary Celebration: (Tabled until January 2017)
3. Old Business
3.1. Brown County Fair Participation (Eric Vetter, Doris Stusiak): Committee members that attended the
juggling performance at the fair reported it went well and was enjoyable. Eric Vetter has a video of Dale
Jones Juggling performance and will put on Facebook page.
3.2. Thank You Card Supply (Holly Gederos) – No report.
3.3. FallOut Event Report (Cindy Kirschman) – Becca Wells, Ardell Fiedler, Sarah Johnson and Cindy had a
booth at the FallOut Art & Music Festival on September 10th. The festival was well attended and the
booth went well.
3.4. Did You Realize Campaign Status (Krista Bau, Holly Gederos, et. al) - Tabled for future meeting
3.5. Request from SD Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities (Doris Stusiak): Tabled for future meeting
3.6. Member Status Changes (Doris Stusiak): Doris emailed and snail mailed Ted Kneebone regarding moving
his membership status to non-active. A thank you card for his time served on the committee will be
mailed to him.
4. New Business
4.1 Updating Member Contact Form (Cindy Kirschman)- Annual Membership forms were distributed and will
be emailed out with minutes for absent committee members to complete. Please bring completed form
to October 18th meeting.
4.2 Activation of Nominating Committee – Cindy Kirschman, Holly Gederos, Doris Stusiak and Krista Bau
were appointed to be on this committee. They will contact members to see of interest in the offices of
President, Vice-President/Treasurer and Secretary.
4.3 Quorum Clarification – Tabled until future meeting
4.4 Parking Placards – Eric Vetter mentioned a letter to the editor about someone receiving one of the cards
and being offended.
5. Review Upcoming Dates
NDEAM – October 11, Aberdeen
6. Ending Items – Adjourn Meeting: Tom Wanttie moved to adjourn with second by Eric Vetter. Motion
carried.
7. Next Meeting: October 18, 2016 (Fall VR Conference in Deadwood so Laura Stoltenburg, Nancy Kelsey, Susan
Hook, and Cindy Kirschman will be gone)
