Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes
Meeting Date: Tuesday, June 20, 2017 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m.

Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting

1. Standing Items
1.1 Any additions to agenda? Brown County Fair
1.2 Review and approve minutes from February and May 2017 Meeting: Motion by Nancy Kelsey, seconded
by Doris Stusiak. Motion carried
1.2.1 Corrections: Updated last names to minutes, Laura added the balance to 303.50 to BAD fund to
the May 2017 meeting. Updated FAA on the May 2017 minutes to correct FFA.
1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s report from May 2017 Meeting
1.3.1 Laura Stoltenberg updated general account will be $1960.75 if we move the -$39.50 from the
ADA fund. Motion to accept treasurer’s report as stated. Motion by Deb Kambel, seconded by
Ardell Fiedler. Motion carried
2. Committee Reports
2.1 BAD – April 28, 2018 will be the next date for Barrier Awareness Day at the Civic Arena.
2.2 Partners in Community Pride – no report
2.3 Transportation –Tom Wanttie reported that Ride Line hired two more drivers, full-time and part-time.
Working with the State of South Dakota for a seatbelt campaign and will be getting an advertising wrap for one of
the Ride Line buses. Deb Kambel inquired about seatbelt extensions in the buses and Tom Wanttie confirmed that
the buses did have four and the requirement was two. Still in the process of electronic card readers with tablets for
passengers. The new software will replace the paper punch cards so passengers can use the card that has the
balance of rides. Cody Roggatz discussed the runway at the airport and will be hearing back from the FAA for
inspection. They are working on getting two new pieces of snow removal equipment and will be one of their biggest
projects this year. Passenger numbers have been up as of the end of May.
2.4 Education Enhancement Award – No report, applications are due August 15, 2017
2.5 NDEAM – Laura Stoltenberg has the movie that will be presented at the Capital Theater. She discussed
partnering with local groups such as the Autism Awareness group. Event is October 18, 2017 at Capital Theater.
2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – July 21? –Eric Vetter discussed the date of the ADA celebration on July
21, 2017 at the Red Rooster. Ron Parker will be performing as well as Better Ride. Singing and Dancing both inside
the coffee house and outside. Wheelchair races in celebration of the ADA.
3. Old Business
3.1 Eric Vetter discussed accessible seating at the Brown County Fair and have been in contact with an individual
and will update us when he hears more.

4.1 Gypsy Day Float with SDSBVI? September 30- SDSBVI Student Council members will be having a float
and looking for a partnership from Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities committee members to
build the float and walk in the parade. In the past this committee paid the registration fee and donated money for
candy. The SDSBVI will be paying for the registration and would like a partnership to be the SDSBVI and this committee
for the float. Laura Stoltenberg motioned that we participate in building the float and participate in the parade in
exchange for advertising on the float in the parade. Doris Stusiak seconded the motion. Motion carried.
4.2 New member approval – Tyler Goldade - NSU Motion to accept Tyler Goldade to join the committee
by Eric Vetter. Cody Roggatz seconded. Motion carried.
4.3 Promotion fund request for the City of Aberdeen. Tom Wanttie received the application to ask for next
fiscal year. Last year the committee requested $5,000 and received $2,000 for our general funds. This year’s committee
would like to ask for $5,000 again to use the money for Barrier Awareness Day funds as that day reaches about 400 5th
graders from the surrounding area. Krista Bau motioned to request $5,000. Eric Vetter seconded. Motion carried. Tom
Wanttie will submit the new application.
4.4 Brown County Fair. Eric Vetter spoke with Sarah Schumacher who is on the Brown County Fair board
and would like to bring a barrel rider who was paralyzed and would like to have her speak to discuss her inspiring life.
The cost of the speaker is over $3000 plus travel. She asked if this committee could be sponsored by us. Committee
discussed that this is not disability sponsored entertainment as we supported a juggler last year along with NVC. Tom
Wanttie suggested that if this committee were to sponsor something at the Brown County Fair would be to sponsor the
ADA chairs with our logo. Will continue discussion.
