Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes
Meeting Date: Tuesday, November 21, 2017 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m.
Location: City Hall 2nd Floor Conference Room
Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting
Attending: Attending: Krista Bau, Deb Kambel, Tom Wanttie, Eric Vetter, Tyler Goldade, Mendy Jones, Becca Wells,
Ardell Fiedler, Cody Roggatz, Gwyn Fischbach (DLR, potential new committee member), Bea Fischer (Chamber of
Commerce)

1. Standing Items
1.1 Any additions to agenda? Library
1.2 Review and approve minutes from October 2017 Meeting
1.2.1 Motion by Ardell, second by Eric, all in favor, motioned carried
1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s report from October 2017 Meeting
1.3.1 Started out with $2000 for fiscal year, ADA balance $896.33, BAD balance $303.50, current
balance of $1396.75 with all expenses paid out. Motion by Becca, second by Ardell, all in favor,
motion carried

2. Committee Reports
2.1 BAD – tabled until January
2.2 Partners in Community Pride – Holiday light contest for any commercial business. They will drive
around in December to judge. Better block project for Aberdeen community. Project will select a community to help
beautify a block. All funded through the night foundation, community launch, November 30th at the K.O. Lee Library
2.3 Transportation – Ride Line is busy, looking for additional drivers-part time. In need of new busses,
looking for funding. Looking to find new funding for rural transit, working with the legislature to present
information. Continuing to work towards online scheduling, but would still need more funding for support. Airport:
10 month change in passenger traffic is up 3.7% from 2016. Discussed 90 minute check in at the airport as stated
through Delta Airlines. Working closely with the AGP. Finishing punch line items with contractor. Snow removal
equipment and have to complete acceptance inspection. Onsite training with the equipment. Working on lease
updates for airport.
2.4 Education Enhancement Award – Clara Pierskalla was awarded. She is a current graduate student at
the University of South Dakota. When she is in the Aberdeen area she will take a picture with committee member
for press release.
2.5 NDEAM – 109 in attendance, 25 people responded to the survey with positive remarks. Great
organization by the committee. Members who attended stated they enjoyed the format. Laura asked for committee
to debrief and develop proposal for next year.
2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – tabled until February

3.1 Gypsy Day Parade – Float Update – Award Winner, Ardell displayed the award and it will be displayed at
the SDSBVI.
3.2 Bea Fischer with Aberdeen Chamber will discuss what benefits we get for being a Chamber member-
Bea presented information on benefits of being a chamber member. Mayor’s Advisory group has been updated
in the chamber member book. Progress magazine. Discussed the dues $325 as a business and changed the rate to
nonprofit and it would be $200 for 2018. Nonprofit business after hour’s month. Chamber for good to list events
coming up. Chamber advocates for members and the community. Chamber announcements and progress advertising is
a great resource for chamber members.

4. New Business
4.1 Update on quadrants. Each year making progress of total quadrants. 179 quadrants are non-compliant.
4.2 Committee Assignments: Current listing of committee members, asked to update. Members to update
committee forms to Tom by December.
4.3 Library: Deb discussed potential mobility issues in the women’s bathroom and access to parking because
of individuals parking as a loading area. Deb will discuss issues with Shirley at the library to have a resolution.
