Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes
Meeting Date: Tuesday, February 20, 2018 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m.
Location: City Hall 2nd Floor Conference Room
Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting
Attending: Becca Wells, Cindy Kirschman, Tom Wanttie, Doris Stusiak, Mendy Jones, Gwyn Fischbach, Allison
Daschle, Andrea Overman Steve Kelsey, Nancy Kelsey, Ardell Fiedler
Excused: Dawn Brush, Cody Roggatz, Deb Kambel, Lance Sigdestad, Dalita Meyer, Michael Gast, Eric Vetter
Absent: Sandy Glover, Krista Bau, Kristin Fastenau, Kristi Myhre
1. Standing Items
1.1 Any additions to agenda? Yes, Chamber listing, Chamber After hours, SDSBVI Student Council,
and Dan Cleberg request.
1.2 Review and approve minutes from January 2018 Meeting. Motion made by Cindy Kirschman to
accept minutes as written, Andrea Overman seconded the motion. All in favor, motion carried.
1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s report from January 2018 Meeting. A grant from the city for
$3,000.00 deposited Jan 1, 2018. Chamber dues for $200.00 were paid leaving a balance of
$3,999.75. Additional funds for BAD at $303.50, and ADA for $896.33 remain. A motion to accept
from Nancy Kelsey and seconded by Doris Stusiak, all in favor, motioned carried.
2. Committee Reports
2.1 BAD – Cindy Kirschman and Krista Bau are co-chairing. Sub Committee members are Steve K.
Nancy K. Becca W. and Andrea O. Save the date, April 27, has been sent to the teachers, a follow up
email asking for numbers will go out soon. There will be eight stations and volunteers are needed for
the day.
2.2 Partners in Community Pride – No report
2.3 Transportation – Ride Line is going through a five-year Coordination plan for the State of SD.
They will be having Public meetings seeking input on transportation needs in the Aberdeen Community. An
outside agency (not hired yet) will run the meetings and compile a report. Committee members are asked
to get the word out when dates for the meetings have been set.
Ride Line is still looking for part –time drivers. Andrea O. made suggestions on how to get the word to
NSU students about these job openings. Cody and Tom attended Transit Day in Pierre along with 14 other
transit agencies. A lobbyist is hired to work with legislators next year to pass legislation for continuous
funding for public transportation.
2.4 Education Enhancement Award – tabled until next month.
2.5 NDEAM – The NDEAM committee for 2018 currently consists of Cindy Kirschman, Dalita Meyer,
Jessica Vogel, Beth Schmitz-Biegler, Kim Hoberg (will take over for Laura in mid-July when she goes on
maternity leave). We will be collaborating with the 2018 fall Rehab Services conference and piggyback off
this conference by having NDEAM host Spencer Beach as a part of the fall conference. We will also be
looking at community-recognized awards as a part of our event. The event will be Oct 11; more details will
follow.
2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – tabled.

3.1 Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce membership listing has been updated with the phone
number for Rehab Services office as the main contact for the Mayors Committee. The phone number is 605-

4. New Business
4.1 Motion to accept for new membership. Lance Sigdestad – Communication Service for the Deaf
and Allison Daschle – Independent Living Choices was made by Becca W, Ardell seconded, all in favor, motion
passed.
4.2 SDSBVI Student Council is having a fundraiser night at Culvers on Feb 27th. Flyers are passed
out and hope you all can attend.
4.3 March 8th is a Chamber After Hours. The Mayors committee will have a booth, volunteers are
needed.
4.4 Dan Cleberg, Red Rooster, is hosting Gayelynn Lee on April 24th. She is the musician that
performed last year at BAD. Dan is asking the Mayors Committee to pay for her lodging. Ardell F. made a
motion to pay for Gayelynn’s lodging for one night in Aberdeen, Nancy K. seconded, all in favor, motion
passed.
