Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Meeting Minutes Meeting Date: Tuesday, March 20, 2018 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m. Location: City Hall 2nd Floor Conference Room Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting Attendees: Krista Bau, Ardell Fiedler, Eric Vetter, Tom Wanttie, Tyler Goldade, Steve Kelsey, Mindy Jones; Becca Wells, Cindy Kirschman, Andrea Overman, Gwen Fischbach, Allison Daschel, Michael Gast, Steven Richmond, Steve Kelsey, Dalita Meyer Absent: Sandy Glover, Mendy Jones, Kristi Myhre, Sarah Dorich, Kristin Fasteneau Excused: Deb Kambel, Nancy Kelsey, Cody Roggatz, Laura Stoltenberg, Doris Stusiak, Dawn Brush 1. Standing Items 1.1 Any additions to agenda? 1.2 Review and approve minutes from February 2018 Meeting: No changes to the February meeting minutes. Cindy made the motion to approve the meeting minutes with a second from Ardelle. Motion carried 1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s report from February 2018 Meeting. Laura was not present for the meeting however reported to Tom that there were not changes to the treasure report since the last meeting. 1.4 2. Committee Reports 2.1 BAD – Have met twice. Have an event for 5th graders. Stations are: deaf/HOH, Autism, Intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, w/c mobility and basketball, assistive technology, mental health awareness, down under. April 27th. Word of the day is Respect. The committee need volunteers for the day. Contact Cindy if interested in volunteering. Have 309 students signed up however still waiting to hear back from 3 other schools. Received $500 donation. Discussed having the Mayor’s advisory and/or volunteers have matching shirts for this event and future event. 2.2 Partners in Community Pride – They are doing the Better Block Grant. Will take a section of main street that will be family friendly. Looking for volunteers for May or June. If interested contact Eric. Spring Residential Cleanup with will be in April 27th and 28th. Need volunteers for this event also. 2.3 Transportation – Ride line is busy. Hired a new driver and started training. Still looking for more drivers. Have some interested through the Job Fair. Transit meeting is next week. Will discuss with the state regarding the coordination meeting and increasing efficiencies across the state with transit services. Was denied addition money from the state and decrease money given by the fed. 2.4 Education Enhancement Award – tabled until June 2.5 NDEAM – tabled until May 2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – Will start meeting in April. Will contact Dan at the Red Rooster and do the event outside with beverages, food and dancing. Looking at doing some new activities at this events. Usually 3. Old Business 3.1 Recap March Business After Hours- Krista and Eric manned the booth for this event. They were approached by a woman from Sioux Falls who discussed partnering with the Mayor’s council or the ADA celebration. Usually the last week in July 3.2 Please make sure that you complete a committee volunteer sheet. Additional sheets were distributed. 3.3 3.4 {00032918.DOCX / 1} 4. New Business 4.1 SDSBVI – Looking at fundraiser for providing books to students. Charity Lunch Bunch – meets once a month. Led by Glenna Fouberg. Next meeting is April 5th. 4.2 Archiver: Discuss the option of having a committee person to Archiver. 4.3 4.4 5. Review Upcoming Dates – NAMI Family Support Group – 2nd Monday of month, 6:30-7:30, Fireside Room, Bethlehem Lutheran Church NAMI Aberdeen Affiliate Meeting – 3rd Monday of month, 5:30 – 7:00, Location TBA NAMI Connections Peer Support Group – 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6:00-7:00, ARCC NAMI Night – 3rd Thursday of month, 5:30 -8:30, Red Rooster Coffee House April 20th – Aspire Formal April 27th – Barrier Awareness Day (BAD) April 16th 7 p.m. – Gaelynn will be at the Red Rooster to Perform There is no Dinner in the Dark this year.
