2. Committee Reports
2.1 BAD – Recap: There were no extra bills this year. We had 390 students and it went rather smoothly this
year. Cindy wanted to give a big thanks to VR as we would not have been able to hold the day without
all of their support as we had several volunteers from there. It was discussed that we need to do a little
better at getting information out to the entire committee about the event and volunteers being needed.
Was suggested that next year try asking for volunteers on Facebook.
2.2 Partners in Community Pride : The Better Block Project went well, concerts, vendors, and the brews for
adults. Overall was a good event.
2.3 Transportation – RL – we have three new part time drivers hired. Dispatcher position is closing May 16
and we will begin setting up interviews with potential new hires.
2.4 Education Enhancement Award: This has been sent out to the colleges. Doris has had 6-7 students
request this and one has already finished theirs, the deadline for this is in August. Doris would like to
have a discussion in the future about increasing the award back to $500 again. Also that it might be
better to be sending out the information about the award in March or April instead as more people will
be able to learn about it as they do not check their emails as often in May or after.
2.5 NDEAM: The event this year is set for October 10th, it will be partnered with a conference that is
already being held in town. They have the speaker Spencer Beach doing his talk on turning demons into
diamonds. The subcommittee will meet next week.
2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration : There will be a meeting on this soon, it will be July 27th partnered with
Dan Cleberg and the Red Rooster. Same types of things as last year, they will be doing a wheelchair
event. Also the subcommittee is asking for giveaways to be done at the event, if you have anything
please get it to Eric, Krista or Tyler.
3. Old Business
3.1 Shirts: Shirts were talked about so that we have something for our events that we put on to help
identify the members of the committee easier. Eric mentioned the possibility of polos or vests as well. It
was mentioned that Krista was looking into prices.
4. New Business
4.1 Matthew Perrault – Wheelchair Curling – Learn to Curl: Matthew Perrault , Aberdeen Curling, talked
about a Learn to Curl event, along with wheelchair curling, that will occur October 2018. Mayor’s
Adviosry Committee will promote this event and some members may participate. Matthew will stay in
contact. Also, it was discussed they may be able to be a part of our ADA Celebration in July.
4.2 Email from Carol Dormady regarding accessibility to restaurants around town: Tom forwarded an
email from an Aberden citizen regarding the ned for automatic door openers at all businesses. Mayor
Levsen had addressed this in an article in the American News. Laura will send the committee’s response
to Tom and Mayor Levsen for them to reply back to this individual. Eric and Doris also led a discussion
of possibly grants to assist businesses to have automatic door openers, even tho it may not be required
by the ADA.
4.3 Does the City offer Interpreting services for our meetings?: Lance Sigestad is planning to start attending
monthly meetings in June. Interpreting services are needed so inquiry will be made as to who is
responsible – the committee or city of Aberdeen.
4.4 Andrea Overman: She is leaving the committee as she is moving out of state.
4.5 SDSBVI fundraiser: SDBVI Foundation is having a raffle ticket sale this year, rather than a Dinner in the
Dark event. Tickets can be purchased from Doris Stusiak.
4.6 Donation: Eric made a motion to give $100 to FallOut Creative Community, Dan Cleberg, for their
participating and assistance with barrier Awareness Day. The motion was seconded by Allison, All in
favor.
