POLICE, FIRE AND LICENSE COMMITTEE January 24, 2024 The regular meeting of the Police, Fire and License Committee was called to order by Chairperson Bert Hefty at 6:30 p.m. in the Albany Village Hall, 206 North Water Street, Albany, WI. Members present were: Hefty, Michelle Monson, Fred Johnson, Deanna Hubert, Denny Atkinson, Fire Chief Danny Mueller and Police Chief Robert Ritter. Absent: Doug Lawrence. Proof of posting was verified. MINUTES: Motion by Monson, seconded by Hubert, to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Carried. PUBLIC APPEARANCES: None. DEREK BROUGHTON – FIREWORKS REQUEST: Not present. FIRE CHIEF CONCERNS: Chief Mueller reported that Justin Mueller has completed 20 inspections but a total of 80 need to be done. There are currently 19 fire fighters. There is damn water training scheduled for May 4. He reported they had 78 total calls and that 11 were river rescues. POLICE CHIEF CONCERNS: Chief Ritter reported that the department is still searching for a full-time officer and that our newly hired full-time officer started the academy. FIRE INSEPCTION ORDINANCE §33-3B(3): Proposed ordinance 01-24 was presented that would allow with exception to require once a year fire inspection rather than two inspections per year. Motion by Hefty, seconded by Hubert, to approve Ordinance 01-24 changing yearly inspections to one per year from two per year. Carried. NON-EMERGENCY BILLING – FIRE DEPARTMENT: Need to pass an ordinance in order to bill; will look more into this. FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFICERS: Motion by Hefty, seconded by Atkinson, to approve Danny Mueller as the Fire Chief and Justin Mueller as the Assistance Fire Chief. Carried. OPERATOR’S LICENSES: None. ANNOUNCEMENT AND FUTURE ITEMS: Number of fire inspections completed; review requirements to hold Fire Chief position; and ordinance to charge for fire calls.
