Board of Trustees Minutes August 6, 2020 Meeting called to order at 8:15 AM MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Kevin Smith, Trustee Jessica Bernius, Trustee Whalen ALSO PRESENT: Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy Deputy Treasurer Tiffany Ladd Assistant to the Mayor Wendy O’Neill The salute to the flag was led by Mayor Siry. Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the August 6th Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees, conducted via Zoom Meeting. He announced the meeting would be a Special Meeting to pay bills. Mayor’s Actions: Mayor Siry requested the approval of the Board of Trustees minutes from July 23, 2020 MOTION to APPROVE with corrections was made by Trustee Bernius and seconded by Trustee Whalen Vote on Motion: Mayor Siry aye Deputy Mayor Smith aye Trustee Bernius aye Trustee Whalen aye Motion Carried: 4 aye 0 nays Mayor Siry requested to appoint David Driscoll to the position of Sergeant for the Amityville Police Department effective August 4, 2020. MOTION to APPROVE with corrections was made by Trustee Bernius and seconded by Deputy Mayor Smith Vote on Motion: Mayor Siry aye Deputy Mayor Smith aye Trustee Bernius aye Trustee Whalen aye Motion Carried: 4 aye 0 nays Appoint Robert Balzini to the position of part-time Quality of Life Officer at the hourly rate of $18.50, effective August 7, 2020. MOTION to APPROVE with corrections was made by Deputy Mayor Smith and seconded by Trustee Whalen Vote on Motion: Mayor Siry aye Deputy Mayor Smith aye Trustee Bernius aye Trustee Whalen aye Motion Carried: 4 aye 0 nays 1 Board of Trustees Minutes August 6, 2020 Accept the retirement of Judith O’Neill, Secretary to Planning Board, effective August 14, 2020. MOTION to APPROVE was made by Trustee Whalen and seconded by Trustee Bernius Vote on Motion: Mayor Siry aye Deputy Mayor Smith aye Trustee Bernius aye Trustee Whalen aye Motion Carried: 4 aye 0 nays Deputy Treasurer Request to approve the abstract from July 22nd – August 4th MOTION to APPROVE was made by Trustee Whalen and seconded by Deputy Mayor Smith Vote on Motion: Mayor Siry aye Deputy Mayor Smith aye Trustee Bernius aye Trustee Whalen aye Motion Carried: 4 aye 0 nays (The following agenda items from Clerk/Treasurer, Police Department, Fire Department and Department of Public Works were voted on as a block): Request from Clerk/Treasurer Request to pay Amityville Historical Society for the first half grant 20/21 in the amount of $3,500.00 (A6410.440) Request to pay Siegel & Sitler, PLLC for Legal service rendered June and July 2020 in the amount of $3,100.00 (A1420.440) Request from Clerk/Treasurer Request to pay Amityville Historical Society for the first half grant 20/21 in the amount of $3,500.00 (A6410.440) Request from Police Department Request to pay Amchar Wholesale Inc. for firearms in the amount of $5,378.96 (A3120.250) Request from Fire Department Request to pay LI Proliner, Inc. for invoice #22201 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 vin 5821 in the amount of $24,372.99 (A3410.231) Request to pay Magnaflood Inc. for 9/11 Memorial lighting in the amount of $17,130.00 (A1624.460) Request from Department of Public Works Request to pay Sprague for 2017 gallons of gas in the amount of $3,035.39 (A1625.410) Request to pay Omni Recycling of Babylon for 56.34 dumped tons in the amount of $5,449.98 (A8160.442) 2 Board of Trustees Minutes August 6, 2020 MOTION to APPROVE the above eight agenda items was made by Trustee Whalen and seconded by Deputy Mayor Smith Vote on Motion: Mayor Siry aye Deputy Mayor Smith aye Trustee Bernius aye Trustee Whalen aye Motion Carried: 4 aye 0 nays Public Hearing Call for a public hearing on September 14, 2020 for Introductory Local Law 3 of the year 2020 to amend Chapter 130 of the Village Code to include residential property maintenance MOTION to ADJOURN was made by Trustee Whalen and seconded by Deputy Mayor Smith Vote on Motion: Mayor Siry aye Deputy Mayor Smith aye Trustee Bernius aye Trustee Whalen aye Motion Carried: 4 aye 0 nays Deputy Mayor Smith noted that the hanging flower baskets look great in the Village. Trustee Bernius applauded the Parks Commission for the planters. Mayor Siry gave a shout out to Department of Public Works for getting the trees and debris from Tropical Storm Isaias cleared. While there are still a couple of areas still without power, more houses are regaining electricity. Over 386,000 were without power in the storm and more than 200,000 have been restored. PSEG is aiming to get power to all by end of day Saturday. Trustee Bernius asked about establishing charging stations, to which Mayor Siry said he would be purchasing power strips for the public to use at the main Fire House and at Village Hall.
