Board of Trustees Minutes October 25, 2021 Meeting called to order at 7:32 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Smith, Trustee Whalen, Trustee O’Neill ALSO PRESENT: Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy Chief Bryan Burton Chief Robert Waegerle Provisional Building Inspector Robert Hayes Assistant to the Mayor Wendy O’Neill Absent: Trustee Brooks Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the Meeting and invited Chief Burton to conduct the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Siry began the proceedings by introducing three outstanding Village public servants and residents who bravely entered a burning home on Deauville Blvd. in Copiague to rescue the occupant. He then presented proclamations to the rescuers who bravely searched for and aided the individual: AFD 1st Assistant Chief Gavin Budde; APD Police Officer Kyle Miller is also a chief in the Copiague Fire Department; and Amityville resident Danny Broyles, an Assistant Chief in the Copiague F.D. Mayor Siry also extended his appreciation to all members of the Amityville Fire Department who assisted and transported the individual as well as Chiefs Rob Waegerle (AFD) and Dominick Nuzzi (CFD). Chief Waegerle also congratulation the individuals on the rescue and praised the department. Mayor Siry called on Deputy Mayor Smith to share upcoming events, which included: • Park After Dark Spooky Faire on Friday, Oct. 29th 5 – 9 pm. and the Village will hold an Octoberfest Friday on the Village Greene, Greene Ave. at Broadway. • Oct. 28, 5 p.m., Red Ribbon Kick Off at Babylon Town Hall, for drug addiction awareness • Oct. 30th Alzheimer’s Foundation Walk at Town of Babylon Park • Oct 30 dedication of Jerry Graziano Memorial Park on W. Oak St. at 11:30 a.m. • Ragamuffin Parade, Oct. 23rd 10 a.m. will step off at 9/11 Memorial Park. • Nov. 11 Veterans Day Commemoration with the VFW on Village Triangle, at 11:00 a.m. • Nov. 13 Historical Society Dinner at Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club, honoring Ellen McVeety and Andy Powell Mayor’s Actions: Appoint and swear in Matthew Rousseau and Michael Schwenzer as Police Officers, Amityville Police Department, effective October 26, 2021 at the starting salary of $45,905. Mayor Siry noted that both prospective hires have law enforcement experience, Rousseau with NYPD and Schwenzer with Stonybrook University and Long Beach as well as seasonal employment with APD. Such fee schedules are annexed hereto as Exhibit A and Exhibit B. Joan Donnison, Bay Village Civic Association, 175 S. Ketcham Ave., asked if the Village has received a street closure request for Chichester Ave. for Halloween, as one of the decorated homes is sure to draw people. The situation will be magnified since Halloween falls on a weekend. Mayor Siry reported that no request was received but called on Police Chief Burton to proactively prepare for and monitor the crowd situation. She also thanked the DPW and APD for their support for the Farmers’ Market. Lisa Strollo, 80 New Point Place, spoke about flooding that occurs at her property due to the gap between her bulkhead and the new Village bulkhead installed after Sandy. She asked to have someone check out the flooding during the pending storm expected the next day. Debbie Magnani, 75 Meadow Lane, asked if the Army Corps of Engineers has rendered any decision on approving the new finger piers at the marina across from her home. Mayor Siry confirmed that the project received the Army Corps’ approval. She asked that the Mayor share the ACOE notification letter with her. She also asked about the status of the Bayside Marina’s summonses, to which Mayor Siry reported that the matter is still in the Village Court, awaiting oral arguments. John Valle, 28 Union Ave., asked the Board to reconsider their denial of his On-Street Parking Application, which occurred at the previous Board Meeting. He brought up that his adult daughter had been in a car accident and moved into his home while recovering. He maintained there is insufficient space in his driveway for three cars, however, the Mayor, Trustees and Building Inspector agree there appears to be room. Trustees Whalen and O’Neill offered to call the resident to arrange a site visit. There being no further agenda items, comments, or discussions. Mayor Siry called for a motion to adjourn.
