Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes August 22, 2022 Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Smith, Trustee Tom Whalen, Trustee Michael O’Neill, Trustee Owen E. Brooks, Jr. MEMBERS ABSENT: ALSO PRESENT: Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy APD Chief Bryan Burton DPW Superintendent Bruce Hopper Building Inspector Michael Breitweg Catherine C. Murdock, Clerk/Treasurer Assistant to the Mayor Wendy O’Neill Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the Special Board of Trustees Meeting and asked Chief Burton to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The Mayor then acknowledged the passing of lifelong resident Seth Purdy, who was 93 years old and was “a Village historian and all around great guy.” He will be missed, Mayor Siry stated. Mayor Siry then presented a proclamation to outgoing Chair of the Planning Board, Mia Jealous-Dank, for her dedicated service in making the Village a more appealing and attractive place through her professional knowledge and valuable experience. The Mayor also thanked Bruce Hopper and DPW for their hard work in moving benthic blankets at Delano Preserve and adding them to Avon Lake to remediate the parrot feather invasive plant species. He then pointed out that the Bull Dog Grille property on Merrick Rd. has now been demolished. The structure was damaged by fire years ago, but the Village will ensure something good takes its place. Next, the Mayor congratulated Cate Tibbetts, daughter of Clerk/Treasurer Catherine Murdock, for receiving the Best Sailor of the Year award from Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club. Deputy Mayor Smith reminded everyone of upcoming events, including: The last “Fridays on the Greene” street party of the season is this Friday, the annual Village Beach Blast is on Saturday, Aug. 27th, and the Kiwanis Craft Fair is on Saturday, Sept. 10th at the Amityville Beach. The 9/11 Remembrance service will be held on Sunday, Sept.11th, 2022, at 4 p.m. at 9/11 Memorial Park on Broadway. On Oct. 2nd, the Town of Babylon will host a parade to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Town. The parade starts at Great Neck Road at the LIRR and goes to Tanner Park. The Village will participate with a float – in cooperation with the Amityville Historical Society. Please come out to celebrate! The Village is hosting a School Supply Drive through August 31st, so please donate. Additionally, the VFW will rededicate the Post Hall on Sept. 26th, 2022 and Town of Babylon will have its annual Alzheimer Walk on Saturday, Sept.24th at Town Hall Park. The fee for each half-yearly permit applied for on or after August 1 shall be $150.00. 2) This Resolution shall be effective immediately. 7 Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes August 22, 2022 Joan Donnison, 150 S. Ketcham Ave., asked if residents of Oak Street Villas would be getting resident parking stickers and if they were ready to be issued. Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy confirmed there would be lead time needed to obtain the permits and begin enforcement (October at the earliest). Christopher Peele, 22 Marion Rd., recommended giving residents time to adjust to the new parking permits. Mayor Siry explained the Village could hire additional EMTs as needed or go to an outside ambulance service. She also questioned the lack of elevators in the proposed Avalon Bay South development plans, which she feels would be a problem for residents and medical responders. Carolyn Franco, 32 Marion Rd.., asked why the Village did not provide her with a reply email to confirm receipt of a FOIL request. Catherine Murdock explained the Village follows the required FOIL protocols and noted that Ms. Franco was contacted by the Village. Christopher Peele, 22 Marion Rd., asked for the Village to put in sidewalks on S. Ketcham Ave. where families and others dangerously walk in the street. Mayor Siry asked Mr. Peele to email the Village with his request for discussion/consideration.
