Public Comments Jeffrey Erath, 81 Braham Ave., spoke against moving forward with Avalon Bay South too quickly. The impact on APD/AFD and other Village services is still unknown. He warned that in 20-30 years, it could turn out like some of the problematic properties we have in the Village today. He also asked why there are rental trucks parked under the LIRR and what can be done about it. Diane Mellish, 22 S. Ketcham Ave., asked where the hearing notice would be advertised to which Mayor Siry responded the Amityville Record and required locations. She told the Board that the contractors’ studies are almost always done in their favor. She also said that the Village is going way too fast and she is concerned about the number of new apartment rentals. Deputy Mayor Smith replied that the Board hears her concerns, but the Village has an opportunity to help the downtown and work with a credible developer to bring in change. John Chadwick, 69 Sterling Pl., reiterated that until Avalon Bay is completed and occupied, we cannot get an accurate read of the conditions. 10 Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes February 13, 2023 Trustee Brooks also spoke of the long-term impact as properties age and maintenance costs rise. He also pointed out that there has been a large number of apartments in the Village even without the addition of Avalon Bay South to our inventory. Mayor Siry stated he feels the Village is in good hands with Avalon Bay. Joan Donnison, 150 South Ketcham Ave., asked if Avalon Bay has submitted revised plans, to which Mayor Siry said “yes.” She said she has not seen the new plans nor the traffic study and that she, like Trustee O’Neill, hopes the Board does not vote on the rezoning for the project on March 13th after the hearing. She also asked when Security Dodge is scheduled to complete their quick lube center. We do not have a date, Mayor Siry reported that owners cited supply chain delays as the reason for delays.
