Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes June 26, 2023 Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Smith, Trustee Michael O’Neill, Trustee Owen E. Brooks, Jr., Trustee Roger Smith MEMBERS ABSENT: Catherine C. Murdock, Clerk/Treasurer ALSO PRESENT: Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy APD Chief Bryan Burton Building Inspector Michael Breitweg Superintendent DPW Bruce Hopper Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Melanie Macomber Assistant to the Mayor Wendy O’Neill Mayor Siry welcomed everyone and invited Chief Burton to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. He then called on Deputy Mayor Smith to announce upcoming events including: July 3rd Celebration on Broadway; July 4th Parade starting at 10 a.m. at Richmond Ave. and Bayside Ave.; Fridays on the Greene; Farmers Market 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays through Oct. 14th; Babylon Solider Ride July 14th, starting at Babylon Town Hall at 9 a.m.; The Wall That Heals Vietnam tribute is headed to Tanner Park, Copiague (volunteers are needed; see Town of Babylon website for information); and the Rotary Club’s Duck Race on August 5th – note that you don’t have to be present to win. Raising violations gives us greater strength but enforcement is key, the mayor pointed out. The fine increase will benefit the Village with budgetary increases of around 25 percent. Public Comments Diane Mellish, 22 S. Ketcham Ave., Amityville, asked what the surcharge fee is for the violations under the local law, to which Mayor Siry and Bruce Kennedy replied $50.00. Ms. Mellish also asked if a no stopping or standing sign violation is subject to a general violation of $100.00. Chief Burton responded yes, it is and carries a $100.00 fine plus 50.00 surcharge. Ketcham Ave., pointed out that several of the newly planted trees at the LIRR have died, and asked if they will be replaced. Mayor Siry reported that he is working with Avalon Bay to replace them. DPW Superintendent Bruce Hopper added there is also a chance they will come back on their own.
