The Board of Trustees Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Kevin Smith; Trustee Michael
O’Neill, Trustee Roger Smith, Trustee Owen Brooks, Jr.

Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the Board of Trustees Meeting and invited Chief Burton to lead the
Pledge of Allegiance. He then presented a proclamation to Tom Urraro, owner of Self Image Salon and
the Village Triangle Building, on the occasion of his retirement and 45 years of hair care services. He
thanked Tom for being a prestigious business owner. Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy also congratulated
Mr. Urraro and noted that he has kept the historic Triangle Building in very good condition, which he
appreciates since several of his own family members including his grandparents owned the property
previously.
Mayor Siry asked Deputy Mayor Kevin Smith for upcoming events, which are as follows:
St. Martin’s Blood Drive, 9/27, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Save the Great South Bay Clean Up at Yacht Services,
9/30 at 8 am.; Bay Village Civic Association Farmers Market, ongoing at 9/11 Park; FEMA and the FCC
test of emergency text message system on Oct. 4th at 2:30 p.m.; “The Wall That Heals” will be on display
Oct. 5th - 8th at Tanner Park; Rotary Apple Festival at Park Ave. and Ireland Pl. on 10/7; Haunted Harvest
on 10/7 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Park Ave.
Deputy Mayor Smith also asked attendees to remember in their prayers the two people from Farmingdale
High School who passed away in a recent bus accident.
Mayor Siry then called for Trustees to present Committee reports.

Department of Public Works – September 2023 (Trustee O’Neill)
• Hauled and disposed of 16.22 tons of Municipal waste,6.45 tons C&D,40 cubic yards yard waste,
.89 tons used village tires.
• Picked up black mulch (no cost to the Village - donated) gussied up the 9/11 Memorial Park in
preparation of memorial service, set up and cleaned up.
• Clearing and putting away summer equipment, cleaned grease trap for the Concession stand.
• Once the operator cleans up and puts away the kitchen equipment; the department would like to
winterize that portion of the pavilion.
• Removed the seaweed fence and clearing the beach to close for another season
• Dug out several Storm Drains: 16 cubic yards removed including twice a week removal of the
built-up sand from in front of the outflow pipe at the Richmond and Ocean Ave’s dock - 5 to 8
cubic yards each time. Rebuilt the storm drain at the corner of Richmond Ave. and Bourdette Pl.
• Continue to clean and groom the Avon Lake area. The department made a floating trash collector
rake to assist in the removal of the accumulated floating trash. The department continues to pick
up piles of cut brush and debris left in piles around the lake and on the sidewalk areas, left by
person (s) unknown. Trimming and removal of all the cut brush and weed debris the department
creates. Ordered two trash receptacles for the east and west middle areas to try to control the litter
and discarded debris.
• Installed four (4) “Autistic Child Area” signs for the intersection of Oak Street and Bayview Ave.
Request from #170 Oak St.
• Salvaging the useable teak wood for possible future repairs of the Village’s memorial benches.
The department continues to clean and seal the teak benches that are still here.
• Picked up 2 tons of asphalt for storm drain patch repair and potholes throughout the village.
• Repaired the sink at the main fire house.
Amityville Fire Department – August (Trustee Brooks)
No formal report available, however, the AFD is preparing a request to place five recruiting signs around
the Village to attract volunteers. Fire Chief Gavin Budde noted that …….shared grant with W. Babylon

Public Comments
Diane Mellish, 22 S. Ketcham Ave., Amityville, asked for more details on the location of Vittorio’s
grease traps.
Joan Donnison, 150 S. Ketcham Ave., thanked Chief Burton for speaking to the Bay Village Civic
Association and asked the Village to address the overgrowth of vegetation that is blocking the Village
Entranceway Signs.
