ANACONDA-DEER LODGE COUNTY BOARD OF PUBLIC HEALTH MEETING MINUTES Thursday, October 20, 2016, 4.30pm Anaconda Community Center, 3rd Floor Conference Room Present: Margaret Osika, John Drastal (via Skype), Jane Dierenfeldt (BOH Chairperson), Sandy Bivins and Kitty Basirico (via phone), Kate Coward. Excused: Cindy Reed (Health Officer), Karen Solberg, Terry Vermeire, Karen Courtney Absent: none Guests: Amanda Bohrer – Tri-County Tobacco Prevention Specialist, Karen Daniels - public. I. Call to Order – Jane Dierenfeldt called the meeting to order at 4:36 PM II. Sandy Bivins motioned to approval of the September minutes, Margaret Osika seconded and the motion passed with all in favor. III. Amanda Bohrer – Tri-County Tobacco Prevention Specialist - gave a detailed presentation to the Board on the Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA), its current scope and potential revisions to include electronic smoking devices and asked the board’s support in amending the CIAA as it has been in other counties. IV. DEPARTMENT REPORTS A. Environmental Health Department – Update provided. No questions. B. School update – The School District is being covered by Cookie Johnson, former school nurse until early December then Heidi Nielson, RN will take over. C. Public Health Department – Report given. No questions were asked. D. County/Commission Update - no report. E. County/Superfund Update – no report. F. Code Enforcement Officer – very informative report with comparisons with past year. Board asked for a copy of the decay ordinance. G. Other updates - none V. Old Business: BOH Vacancies –Kate Coward was confirmed as voting member of the BOH. Still need two ex-officio members. Strategic Planning update: Has not met since last BOH meeting. VI. New Business: Discussion held on - MT Clean Indoor Air Act recommendations. Board will look over the material presented and decide at a future date. VII. Miscellaneous/Announcements, including educational offerings: - Audrey will email details of new educational online opportunity to Janie. - Discussion regarding mosquito districts and spraying took place again at this meeting. Representatives did not respond to messages left by board members. Discussion continued regarding the possibility of obtaining the MSDS sheets for the products used. Comment was made that there have been fewer mosquitoes over the past two/three years in certain areas of the county. - Sandy Bivins informed the board that she will be gone till January but can call or Skype in to the meetings. - Margaret Osika informed the board of the Pintler events website. - Discussion was held on future presenters for the BOH. Of the six speakers identified Margaret will be contacting Kathy Swanson. Kate Coward, Director of the Metcalf Senior Center will present next month. VIII. Public Comment: Karen Daniels brought forth the issue of a trailer on her trailer court property near Fairmont. Apparently the owner of the trailer has not paid rent for some time and the trailer is in disrepair. She would like to see the trailer removed before winter. She was put in contact with Karen Courtney. IX. Audrey Mattson motioned to adjourn the meeting at 6:00 PM, Kate Coward seconded the motion and the motion passed with all in favor.
