AiM Education & Communications Subcommittee Meeting Minutes AUGUST 9, 2022 Attending: Daniel Sizemore, TPW Bike & Pedestrian Safety Coordinator Mark Beatty, Planner NEGA Regional Commission Donna Fee, “Learnie” software company (Pete CEO & Bill software developer) Teresa Friedlander, AiM Vice Chair (Education & Communications Subcommittee Chair) Randy Halstead, AiM Commission Scott Long, BikeAthens Dale Van Cantfort, AiM Greenway Liaison Call to order: 4:09 pm 1. AiM Brochure Draft Review Teresa presented a draft brochure using the flier template prepared by Toole and asked the attendees to discuss. Scott would like information readily available to people who come to his shop or contact him through other means. Specifically, he would like to share AiM’s big accomplishments and project status; goals; ways for people to get involved. The group had a lengthy discussion about whether a QR code linked to a new-and-improved AiM webpage would be more useful than a printed brochure. The consensus was that it would. Teresa asked Scott if they could meet to go over some of the questions he is asked so we can design the user interface around that. 2. Social Media posts With Mayor and Commission having approved the 60-day pilot project on Prince Avenue to test the feasibility and utility of three-laning Prince from Pulaski to Milledge, we will need to use social media to provide information about the project which will run from mid-September through mid-November. There will be opportunities for public engagement as well as pop-up events and tabling opportunities. BikeAthens will create incentives to get people to try out the bike lanes and AiM can help promote this. 3. Learnie Demo Donna Fee introduced the Learnie platform for creating and sharing short educational videos. Pete, the CEO, and Bill, the developer, gave demonstrations of how fast and easy it is to create content. 1 The group discussed how it might be useful for Athens in Motion. Given where we are in our communications program, adding Learnie to the toolkit at this time seems premature. Scott has plenty of videos he uses for training and promoting safe biking and would not create new content. Donna et al. explained that there is a free version of Learnie at www.mylearnie.com already set up for Athens in Motion if we would like to play around with the software. 4. Tabling Events: UGA invited AiM to set up a table at their 2022 Bike and Pedestrian Safety Day, September 8th from 10-2. Teresa, Daniel, and Randy will be there with the new tabling gear. Prince Avenue is another opportunity for Athens in Motion to set up a table. Teresa will email Tommy Valentine of Historic Athens to see about setting up a table at PorchFest. BikeAthens would host a bike ride through Boulevard. (Email sent 09/09/2022, text 09/10/2022, no reply as yet) Farmers Markets are also good venues for tabling. Teresa will contact the market manager to inquire about this. Markets are at Bishop Park (Saturdays 8-12) and Creature Comforts (Wednesdays 5-8). 5. AiMC Logo Updates The group looked at the current logo contenders and like the logo with the icons, with a few changes: the circles should be blue/pedestrian, green/car, blue/bicycle, green/bus, blue/wheelchair; the font for “in” should have a bit more weight. Creating a “sticker” out of the icons doesn’t work well as it is too cluttered. Perhaps using the simple Athens in Motion riding the arrow as a sticker would work. 6. Adjournment: 5:30 pm 2
