Human Relations Committee Meeting Minutes Wednesday, June 28, 2023 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM City Hall 301B ACCGov Staff in Attendance: 1. Dr. Remy Epps – Inclusion Officer 2. Annesia Crew – Data & Policy Coordinator, Inclusion Office 3. Cameron McGlothen – Equity & Engagement Coordinator, Inclusion Office 4. Molly Brooks- Inclusion Fellow HRC Members in attendance: 1. Box 1868 ∙ Athens, Georgia 30603 (706) 613-3015 ∙ Email: inclusionoffice@accgov.com www.accgov.com • Committee chair Cameron Harrelson started the meeting thanking HRC members for being present and for helping with the Athens Pride, Hot Corner, Morton Theatre, and Juneteenth events. • Dr. Epps provided updates from the Inclusion Office • The committee took time to recognize Ke'Marcis Howard as vice chair. • The committee provided feedback on the community events: a. Reiterated the importance of having more time to plan and organize future events. b. Participation from more of the committee members. c. A clear understanding of roles, responsibilities, and expectations while participating in events. d. Events went well despite the time to put things together e. HRC’s presence may have been overlooked f. More time to create an outreach plan could have to led to better promotion, and community participation g. The committee should consider accessibility when creating and disseminating material. h. Inclusion Office is there to support HRC events, not to staff them • The Inclusion Office shared results and feedback from the community survey. • A committee recommended that the committee create a folder to help new members with onboarding • Subcommittee chairs’ provided the group with updates, a. NDO – Working to translate Non-Discrimination Ordinance in Spanish b. Community Outreach – Plan to meet with event coordinators to debrief events, plan to establish a town hall, find community needs assessment data c. Rec. Policy – Working to establish a rubric to recommend policy, creating a community survey based on already identified policies • The committee discussed attendance expectations. • Meeting adjourned at 6:50 P.M. RULES OF COMMISSION STATE THAT A RESIDENT MAY SPEAK FOR UP TO THREE MINUTES WITH A 30 SECOND REMINDER AT TWO AND A HALF MINUTES. • Old Business 1. Recognition of Member Howard as New Vice Chair 2.
