City of Battle Creek Election Commission Meeting 10 N. Division Street – Room 111 Battle Creek, MI February 18, 2020 10:00 AM Present: Jill Steele, City Attorney, Steve Hudson, City Assessor and Victoria Houser, City Clerk Absent: None Guests: Melinda Mitchell, precinct chairperson Call to Order: Clerk Houser called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M., noting a quorum was present. Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Assessor Hudson, supported by Attorney Steele, to approve the April 16, 2019 and May 6, 2019 Election Commission meeting minutes. All in favor, none opposed. Motion approved. Election Inspector Assignments Clerk Houser presented a list of election inspectors to serve at the City’s 21 precincts and one Absentee Voter Counting Board, noting a need for almost 140 inspectors, which includes City staff members. Inspectors will serve as Chairpersons, Computer Operators, Inspectors, Greeters and Receiving Board members. A motion was made by Attorney Steele, supported by Assessor Hudson, to approve the appointment of almost 140 persons, including City staff, as needed to serve as election inspectors for the March 10, 2020 Presidential Primary Election. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. Public Accuracy Testing: Clerk Houser performed the public accuracy testing on the Precinct #22 tabulator, presenting the prepared test deck and describing the differences in the ballot markings so that the results would coincide with the results of the test deck. Upon completing testing of 189 ballots, Clerk Houser ran the tabulator totals tape. Attorney Steele and Assessor Hudson reviewed the totals tape to ensure the tabulator results matched the predetermined results of the test deck chart. Public Comments: There were no public comments.
