POST/FRANKLIN NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL Thursday, Mar 1, 2012 CAA Board Room 175 Main St. 7:00 p.m. The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the CAA Board Room. ATTENDANCE: Members Present: Cynthia Fritz, Katie Hubbard, Gilbert Ortiz, Deborah Perkins, Pat Shellenberger and James Moreno. Members Excused: John Cash, Linda Carmona, John Kenefick, Yvonne Powell, Diana Quiqq, and Eliose Fogg. Guests and Visitors: Commissioners Lynn Ward Gray and Sherri Sofia, Police Chief Jackie Hampton, Officer’s Kathy Schley, Tony Gancer and Chris Rabbit, Jerome Watkins and John Hennink. ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS TO THE AGENDA: None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: No Quorum; will approve minutes next month. CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: Community Open House and Dialogue – Mon. Mar 5 at 7:00 p.m. Burnham Brook. Carefree Med. & Dental Clinic – Dancing w/local stars Apr. 12, 2012. Scholarships – Available thru B.C. Community Foundation – Apr. 1 deadline – visit www.BCCFOUNDATION.ORG. COMMITTEE AND STAFF REPORTS: Police and Code: Police officers present, no Code Officer present. Stats distributed. Issues submitted: 247/249 Main St. – front yard parking 52/62 High St. – back door open – abandoned property House across from Dairy Queen torn down–kudo’s to all who made it possible. 80 High St. – 1 tree cut other are still there Tree on Burnham St. leaning on wire by American Stamping Planning: None Beautiful Battle Creek Award: 696 E. Michigan Ave. A motion was made by Gilbert and seconded by Pat. Motion passed and address will be sent forward. Membership: None. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Comm. Gray reported on the Tax Abatement Mtg. that they worked on Public Act 198 and 328. They are taking a second look at re-districting the wards based upon 2010 Census. Sofia reported that the Special Use permit for Whitley Funeral Home was approved. She also commented on the late night solicitations and she reported the incident to the police and a notice was publicized for the public to be aware. Crime Watch will be putting up signs. A comment was made by a visitor that the information on City website is outdated. Battle Creek Public Schools: No representation. OLD BUSINESS: James reported that he submitted a public service notice to Dennis to be incorporated into the monthly Water Bill. Next month Nancy McFarlane will present an overview of her agency Community Action. NEW BUSINESS: Chief Jackie Hampton presented an overview on the Battle Creek Police Department. The presentation was excellent and we appreciate the update. The vision statement set the tone for his presentation. Other highlights of his presentation included the following: Open door policy, Problem Oriented Policy and Community Commitment (this included: Citizen Contacts, Foot Patrols, Bicycle Patrols and a Downtown Officer). Also, a good website to view police press releases is www.nixel.com. MEMBER COMMENTS: None. Public COMMENTS: None.
