POST/FRANKLIN NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL

The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the CAA Board Room.
ATTENDANCE:
Members Present: John Cash, Cynthia Fritz, Deborah Perkins, Diana Quigg, Pat
Shellenberger and James Moreno.
Members Excused: Linda Carmona, Katie Hubbard, Yvonne Powell, and Eliose Fogg.
Guests and Visitors: Commissioners Elizabeth Fulton and Lynn Ward Gray
ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS TO THE AGENDA: No additions or deletions.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: No Quorum – minutes will be approved at next meeting.
CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
• CA is having a Clean-up during United Way Day of Caring, call 211 to volunteer.
• CA Liz Bonner will speak at our Oct Meeting
• Mike’s Place (Old Post School) is the host site for Grassroots Food Movement.

• Sept. 25 there will be a voter registration at 6 p.m. site was not given
• Celebration of Hamilton Park is in the process of being planned by Creating
Change – when we get more information, it will be passed on to the members.
• Calhoun County Voter Coalition is hosting a “Meet the Candidates” on Oct 15,
6:30–8:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 145 Capital Ave, NE – come
meet the candidates for the MI House 62nd District and the US House of Reps, 3rd
District.
• Burnham/South Ave Water Main Construction to begin Oct 1, 2012 and be completed
Jun 30, 2013.
COMMITTEE AND STAFF REPORTS:
Police: No Representation.
Code: No Representative was in attendance. Informed Vice Mayor this was a
pattern. We asked Vice Mayor Fulton to follow-up on the issue below with Susan
Bedsole.

118 Highway – abandoned property being used by neighbors – lots of code issues
120 Highway – numerous complaints – excessive junk/garbage in front/side/back
yards–deplorable condition in backyard housing a dog
The following issue was submitted for action:
120 Academy – It was to be torn down and now it looks as if someone is renting.
Planning: None
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: None.
Membership: A membership issue will be addressed next month.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Dog Ordinance Workshop will be held Sep 17 at 6:30. There
was plenty of discussion on this topic. A special meeting about the Police
Incident is in the planning stages. Watch for announcement of when this will take
place. Sherri Sofia sent her regrets that she was not able to attend the meeting
due to schedule conflicts.
Freedom Fun Day (planned by the NAACP) will be held Oct 26 at the BC Country Club.
Contact the NAACP for more information.
Battle Creek Public Schools: No representation.
OLD BUSINESS: As there was no quorum, the chair has asked everyone to bring their
assigned dashboard sheets to the next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
CA Volunteer Rep. Liz Bonner will speak at our Oct. meeting. There will also be a
representative from the Police Department to speak about Emergency Management
Preparedness.
MEMBER COMMENTS: It was noted that the Code Inspector was not present and this
was a concern to members because of on-going code problems in our neighborhoods.
Public COMMENTS: None.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
