WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Minutes May 21st , 2012 The meeting was held at First Assembly of God Church, 800 S. 24th Street, Battle Creek Michigan Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:03pm Cecil Salinas led the invocation. Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Secretary: Linda Patenaude, Vice Chair: David Weaver, Diana Cole, Tom Frame, Neils Magnuson, Cecil Salinas, Commissioner Commissioner Mary Lou Ramon Guests: Jim Haadsma, Rita and Dwight Grandganett City staff: Neighborhood Services: Marcie Gillette Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: none Additions or Deletions to Agenda: none Minutes: Due to change in meeting schedule the minutes of April 2012 were not received by the membership in time to read them so they will be reviewed at the June meeting along with the May minutes in a motion made by Mary Lou Ramon and seconded by Dave Weaver. Police Report: Crime reports were handed out by Marcie Gillete. No officer was present. Public Service Announcements from Commissioners: Commissioner Ramon reported that the Day Spa zoning on Territorial was approved. The medical marijuana will be coming up on their agenda for June 5 when the moratorium expires. Springfield has turned this into a money making proposition and we need to look at it. Committee Reports: a. Membership : Several people called in to be excused. b. Beautiful Battle Creek Award‐ This month's : Rita and Dwight Grandganett, 101 Kingsbury Court Members are encouraged to bring in submittals, so we have some extras. d. Neighborhood Planning‐ Addressed by Commissioner Ramon with her commissioner report. e. Woodland Park‐ Will be one of the featured speakers in June. The volunteers were thanked for helping with upkeep on the park. City Staff Report: Marcie Gillette handed out written reports. New Business: none Program: Jim Haadsma, one of our County Commissioners spoke about the county issues. Our other commissioner is Kathy Sue Dunn and she was not able to attend due to scheduling conflicts. They will be making decisions about the existence the Road Commission. He shared the top 3 things he hears about are the roads, roads, and roads. The Ott Preserve and the linking of the bicycle trail is also a project that the county commission is looking at. The county has no control over the water issues in the county. That is the Drain Commissioners job. Mr Haadsma shared that the Emergency Dispatch in Marshall is a great collaboration and her hopes it continues to be. Comments for the Good of the Order: a. Public Comments: none b. Member Comments‐ ‐Diana Cole shared she felt it was a very good and informative meeting. ‐Neils Magnuson said that despite difficult times they are interesting and exciting.
