WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Notes June 25, 2018 Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:00pm Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Vice Chair Dave Weaver, Secretary Linda Patenaude, Diana Cole, Donna Kowalski, Donna Jaeger Commissioner John Griffin Guests: Leslie Williams City staff: BC Officer Shawn O’Bryant Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: Chairman Jeff Koteles shared the letter he sent to the planning commission simply stating the developer came and presented their idea for the property on Gethings and Helmer. He also shared that 24th street and Gethings roads have a speeding issue and the city is looking at placing speed bumps along those roads if owners agree and want them. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none Minutes: No quorum present so April minutes were not approved. Police Report: Officer O’Bryant handed out the written reports. She stressed the importance of locking doors and vehicles. Don’t be afraid to call if you see someone suspicious in your neighborhood because of the high incidence of B&E’s Public service announcements from commissioners: Commissioner John Griffin noted that there was much discussion taking place over the water quality issues in Battle Creek and that everything was within specified safe limits Committee Reports: Membership: looking for new members and invited Leslie Williams to join. Lakeview Schools: Superintendent Blake discussed the renovation of the elementary schools and the bond issue for the non-homestead property owners Beautiful Battle Creek award: none Woodland Park: Diana Cole reported that they are going to use some beaver traps. Some signs have been vandalized and will be replaced. The Battle Creek Fire and Resue have been using the park for training. City Staff Report: No code officer present. Old Business: none New Business: Special Presentation: Leslie Williams, 13746 Helmer Rd South, would like to open a doggie day care on her family’s 10 acre site on Helmer Road. (It is right next to the Faith Baptist Church on Helmer Road) This would entail a 28 x 60 pole barn frame building where the dogs would be kept indoors and a fenced in portion of the yard 100 x 150 foot for outdoor play. She will require a re-zoning of her property to do this. There was no quorum present to vote on this issue.
