Community Meeting
Meeting Minutes ~ June 12, 2012 ~ Mt. Zion AME Church
1. Call to Order & Welcome: Meeting was called to order at 7:11 p.m. by L. Gray, secretary.
2. Attendance-Members present: Jeffrey Dinkins, Scott Hutchings-FHC, Lynn Ward Gray,
Samuel Gray, Kitty Hillian, Steve Lee, Keith McDonald, Bill Phillips-NIBC and Dorothy Young
Members Excused Absence: Sheryl McDonald and Betty Settles City Staff: Eric Morris, Lt.
Todd Madsen & Ofcr. R. Thayer Guest: Tina Gilbert, Loretta Lee, Charles Plummer, Fredrico
Porter, and Karen Todd.
3. Approval of Previous Minutes: Approval of May 8, 2012 meeting minutes was moved by
K. Hillian, seconded by K. McDonald. Motion carried.
4. NPC 2 History & Overview: D. Young, B. Phillips & S. Gray gave history & overview.
5. NPC 2 Block Champion Concept/Invitation: K. McDonald explained the role of a block
champion.
6. Call to Action: S. Gray gave the call to action. He reminded members to complete door to
door assignments with materials available tonight even if you didn’t get to your doors before
tonight’s meeting we still want individuals to get the personal invite for the August 13th meeting.
7. Public Comments/Member Comments: None
• Several public safety issues were raised by members and guests: 1) J. Dinkins asked
about cameras, 2) C. Plumber asked about speeding on Goodale & Claude Evans Park, 3)
T. Gilbert raised concerns over break-ins in Post Franklin addition. Information was
given to her for the NPC in her area along with Creating Change. Bill Phillips offered to
get community watch diaries and materials to her and her neighbors, 4) S. Lee pointed
out some issues on Greenwood Ave., and 5) K. Hillian reported concerns about activity at
Walter and Hanover.
• L. Gray announced 1) Juneteenth Family Day on June 16th, 2) Ward 2 Town Hall &
Keeping You Informed (KYI) with Comm. Gray is On Demand on AccessVision. KYI
airs every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., with a new topic each month, please let me know if
you have a topic of interest.
8. Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be a regular meeting Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 7:00
p.m. at Neighborhoods, Inc.
9. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m. by S. Gray, Chair
