Call to Order 7PM

Introduction of Guests/Members:
Members: John Paul Wilson (acting chair), Sean Lewis, Mary Lusk, Dave Salerno,
Mary Conklin, Andy Helmboldt, Sarah Smith Quorum was met with 7 members at
7:35 PM
Guest: Amanda Lankerd with BC Vision, Todd Nowicki, Jake Smith, Darren
Campbell, Tommy and Jennifer Furmato, Sherry Wells, Monique Cheeks, John
Hennink, Susan Baldwin, Lynn Ward Gray, Susan Baldwin, and Lisa Thornton

Additions or Deletions to the Agenda: None at this time
Approval of Previous Minutes: March 15, 2017: Motion to approve the Minutes from
March 15, 2017 was made by Sarah Smith and 2nd by Andy Helmboldt. There was no
discussion and no changes. Aye 7 and Nays 0
Program was a presentation by Amanda Lankerd representing BC Vision and United Way.
The presentation discussed the community wide initiative to improve life in Battle Creek.
There were hand out given that explained the initiative and the teams working on towards
achieving various goals.
Governmental Reports
Police Department Report – Officer Chad Perry reported that B&Es/larcenies have
dropped off; noise and speeding complaints are up.
Code Compliance Report and Community Development: Report given by Todd Nowicki.
Mr. Nowicki gave a handout about a roofing project that will help people pay for new
roofs up to $12,000. Discussion on the street rubbish and responsibilities of clean up
occurred.
Battle Creek Area Transportation Study (BCATS): Report given by Darren Campbell on the
street repairs that will begin in May.
Calhoun County Land Bank: No report given.
Elected Officials Reports
City Commission Report
Kate Flores – Ward 3 Commissioner:
Lynn Ward-Gray – Ward 2 Commissioner: Spoke of the aggressiveness of the
upcoming meeting schedule. A complete schedule can be found on the city website.
Kaytee Faris – Commissioner at-large
Andy Helmboldt – Commissioner at-large: Gave an update on the animal ordinance;
another round table discussion will happen in the summer. HOWEVER, the
ordinance will be on City agenda for May 2nd and issues regarding the ordinance will
be voted on at the City May 16th meeting. The City will also discuss and vote on the
changes to the voting schedule.
Susan Baldwin: Spoke on the tornado testing, update on possible sale for two
vacant buildings and Medical Marijuana workshop.
Battle Creek Public Schools:
County Commissioners: Jake Smith of District 3 introduced himself. Discussed the
roads and the right sizing of the department.

Planning Commission - 14420 South Helmer Road (Senior Housing) Susan: approved
was it is an explanation behind the memory care 14 new apartment

Membership: Tommy and Jennifer Furmato was asked to join the board. Sarah Smith
moved that Tommy Furmato be made a member of the board. It was 2nd by Sean
Lewis. Passed with 7 Ayes and 0 Nays

by Sean Lewis and passed with 7 Ayes and 0 Nays.
Nextdoor Application Will be discussed at the May meeting.

NPC 4 Name: A discussion concerning the name changes occurred and will continue at the
May meeting.
New Business
Properties of Concern: None were given.
Membership Comments for the Good of the Order:
Andy Helmboldt thanked JP Wilson for running the meeting.
Mary Lusk reported that the 1st Presbyterian Church will be running a health fair in July to
help people get health screening and children to get athletic forms filled out.
Public Comments for the Good of the Order:
Thank you for attending and the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 PM
