NPC 4 meeting date: 5.17.23 7pm members: Sherry Sofia, Chandra Youngblood, JP Wilson, Mary Conklin, David Salerno, Mary Lusk, guests: Kim Yarger, Chuck Yarger, Craig Long, Roger Koning BCPD: Officer Long passed out April crime report. He explained his role in the COPS program (community-oriented policing services). Keeps one officer consistently in one neighborhood. The police department recently hired 17 additional personnel. He reported Eric Morris might be our new code official. Investigating suspicious death, body found Wagner and Poplar. Abandoned home 15 Merritt owned by Land Bank being used by addicts. Chuck expressed his concern about cars parked on the street with no license and long standing vacant houses with fire damage reducing property values. government: Sherry reported on the need for the city to support county wide transit. BC Go serves a small fraction of the demand for service. City bus fares and state and federal grants currently fund city bus service. Mary Conklin asked about the possible return of Saturday service. Still a driver shortage. Chuck remarked that TIFA funding puts more of the tax burden on residents. General discussion on clogged street drains. membership: The motion passed in favor of Kim and Chuck Yarger, and Roger Koning to become members. BCPS: Chandra said graduates are eligible for paid college tuition and fees. The graduation ceremonies at WK Auditorium not opened to the general public because of space limitation. comments: Kim appreciated being welcomed back. Mary Conklin found the meeting entertaining.
